Government invites public opinion on Macao human rights report

The Government is inviting comments from the public on human rights in the Macao SAR, in order to prepare a report as part of the third cycle of the Universal Periodic Review of the People’s Republic of China at the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council.

The Universal Periodic Review – conducted by the UN Human Rights Council – is a regular process that involves a review of human rights records of all UN Member States.

The 3rd Universal Periodic Review of the People’s Republic of China is to be submitted in July to the UN Human Rights Council.

The Macao Government is working diligently to provide the Central Government with comprehensive information regarding the city’s human rights policies and the implementation of international treaties in the Macao SAR. The report covers the period between January 2013 and April 2018.

The review of the human rights situation in the Macao SAR covers three pages of the report to be submitted by the People’s Republic of China to the UN Human Rights Council. The Macao Government has drafted an outline of the topics to be included in its report about the human rights situation in the SAR. The outline of the report can be accessed on the Government portal website (www.gov.mo); and on the website of the Legal Affairs Bureau (http://www.dsaj.gov.mo/).

Members of the public are welcome to contribute their opinions and suggestions to the Legal Affairs Bureau on or before 21 March 2018 inclusive, via email, fax or mail, or in person to representatives of the Bureau.
