The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, said the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area would create fresh opportunities for coordinated economic development involving Macao, Zhuhai and Zhongshan.
The Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) would allocate resources according to strategies outlined in the development plan for a city cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, once the plan had been published, Mr Chui added.
Mr Chui made the comments when meeting the Mayor of Zhuhai, Mr Yao Yisheng, on Tuesday (27 February); and reiterated them in a separate meeting on Wednesday (28 February) with the Secretary of the Communist Party of China Zhongshan Municipal Committee, Mr Chen Xudong. Mr Chen is also the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Zhongshan Municipal People’s Congress.
Zhuhai and Zhongshan, both located in Guangdong Province, were important to Macao as partners of the city. Macao-Zhuhai and Macao-Zhongshan cooperation had created a solid foundation for propelling Guangdong-Macao ties, said Mr Chui.
On Wednesday Mr Chen briefed the Chief Executive on Zhongshan’s vision to turn that city into a world-class centre for manufacturing and a hub for regional transportation, under the strategy for the Greater Bay Area. He said he looked forward to a more extensive cooperation with Macao, a place that had unique advantages and features.
In Tuesday’s meeting, Mr Yao outlined Zhuhai’s achievements in 2017 regarding economic development and the betterment of its citizens’ livelihoods. He stated Zhuhai would spare no effort in helping to facilitate Macao’s economic diversification, supporting the SAR’s sustainable development under the guidelines from the Central Government.
The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Leong Vai Tac; the Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Mr Raimundo do Rosário; and the Chief-of-Office of the Chief Executive’s Office, Ms O Lam, also attended the two meetings.
