The tickets for the 29th Macao Arts Festival (MAF), organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, went on sale on 11 March. Interested members of the public waited at different ticketing outlets to purchase tickets. Sales reached a satisfactory result as more than 5000 tickets were sold up to 7pm on the first day of ticket sales.

This edition of the MAF, themed “Origin”, symbolising the “spring of life”, will be held from 27 April to 31 May, exploring a wide range of topics to broaden the audiences’ thinking about life as well as to lead the audience to recall the core meaning of life by means of different art manifestations. With an enthusiastic response on the first day of ticket sales, tickets for all sessions of the play Sunset at the Shipyards and part of the sessions of the experimental play Parasomnia and Host were sold out; while sales for the play Les Curious Fringes – Blast of the Cave, Pissed Julie, the family dance show Sponge, In Search of Memory and When All Was Green had an enthusiastic response.

The Festival offers a number of extraordinary shows, including the grand opening performance Das Kapital by the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre, inspired by Karl Marx’s grand classic; the closing performance 13 Tongues by internationally renowned dance group “Cloud Gate 2”, revealing the beauty of folklore; the play The Trojan Women by contemporary Japanese playwright Tadashi Suzuki, which showcases the misery and desolation in the post-war period; The Trial by renowned Korean theatre group Sadari Movement Laboratory, an adaptation of Kafka’s classical work, which explores the definition of crime with unique body movements and language; the physical theatre 32 Rue Vandenbranden by celebrated Belgian group Peeping Tom. In addition, fascinating concerts Henning Kraggerud and the Macao Orchestra and Fado Concert by the Macao Chinese Orchestra are also not to be missed.
