The Government was looking forward to exploring opportunities with Hebei Province regarding development of the latter’s Xiong'an New Area economic zone, said today the Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On.
Mr Chui told reporters before his departure to Beijing that this would be a subject for discussion during a meeting with the Secretary of the CPC Hebei Provincial Committee, Mr Wang Dongfeng, and the Governor of Hebei, Mr Xu Qin.
Mr Chui is on a four-day visit to Beijing and will attend tomorrow’s closing ceremony of the first session of the 13th National People's Congress.
While in the capital, Mr Chui would additionally meet with scholars from the Institute for Public Safety Research – a body based at Tsinghua University – and would also meet with representatives of China Central Television.
Visiting Tsinghua University would provide the Government with better insights on the Institute’s latest scientific and technological researches regarding public emergency management, and help optimise Macao’s capabilities regarding the city’s response to any public emergency.
Commenting on other issues, Mr Chui said the Central Government, the Government and the community paid great attention to the development of Macao’s young people.
In that regard, the Government would strengthen coordination between the Chief Executive and the five governmental Secretaries. Their subordinate departments include bodies responsible for policies concerning different life stages of young people: the phase leading to maturity as adults; starting a business; seeking employment or planning a career; and acquiring ownership of a home.
The key objective currently for the Government was how to improve the upward mobility of young people, most of whom had the opportunity to receive an education in a tertiary educational institution, noted Mr Chui.
In addition, Mr Chui said Macao’s work regarding the protection of the city’s cultural heritage adhered to guidelines from the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and to advice from experts in the field.
During a public consultation regarding the Plan for Protection and Management of the Historic Centre of Macao, the Government received a number of opinions regarding the proposed delineation of visual corridor in order to preserve the view – as seen from the Macao peninsula – of the Chapel of Our Lady of Penha, at Penha Hill.
As that topic was currently subject to consultation procedures, it would be difficult to comment on whether there should be height limits for buildings in relation to the proposed visual corridor, he added.
Officials accompanying Mr Chui on the visit to Beijing included: the Secretary for Security, Mr Wong Sio Chak; the Commissioner-General of the Unitary Police Service, Mr Ma Io Kun; the Chief-of-Office of the Chief Executive’s Office, Ms O Lam; the Director of the Government Information Bureau, Mr Chan Chi Ping; the Director of the Protocol, Public Relations and External Affairs Office, Ms Lei Ut Mui; and Assistant to the Commissioner-General of the Unitary Police Service, Mr Ng Kam Wa.
