Macao grasps development insights from Xiong'an New Area

The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, meets with the Secretary of the CPC Hebei Provincial Committee, Mr Wang Dongfeng.

The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, today said the Government would benefit from the development insights of Hebei Province in relation to the latter’s Xiong'an New Area economic zone.

Mr Chui made the comments in Beijing during a meeting with the Secretary of the CPC Hebei Provincial Committee, Mr Wang Dongfeng, who is also the Chairman of the Hebei Provincial People's Congress.

A recent visit to Hebei by the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Leong Vai Tac, had aimed to gain better understanding of the Province’s experience in developing its Xiong'an New Area, Mr Chui stated.

Macao was looking forward to making further contributions to the development of Hebei’s new economic zone, he added.

Mr Chui also briefed Mr Wang on the latest information about Macao’s development efforts. As guided by the Central Government, Macao had been making strong efforts to advance regional cooperation, in particular relating to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, in order to integrate Macao further with overall national development.

The Government was dedicated to pressing ahead regarding respectively: the strategic goal of transforming Macao into a world centre of tourism and leisure; and of advancing the city’s role as a commercial and trade cooperation service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries (collectively known as the “Centre and Platform” policies). The ongoing achievements in these matters were based on strong support from the Central Government and the concerted effort of communities locally.

During the meeting, Mr Wang said Macao’s participation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the upcoming launch of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge created robust opportunities for Macao to enhance ties with mainland cities.

Mr Wang said additionally that the recent visit to Hebei by the Secretary of Economy and Finance – as well as today’s meeting – showed that the Macao Government paid great attention to integrating the city further with major national development strategies.

Presenting an account of the latest progress regarding Xiong’an New Area, Mr Wang said the Hebei Provincial Government had already initiated appropriate development processes. He hoped closer Hebei-Macao cooperation would benefit Xiong’an New Area in terms of generating greater development opportunities.

Macao officials attending today’s meeting included: the Chief-of-Office of the Chief Executive’s Office, Ms O Lam; the Director of the Government Information Bureau, Mr Chan Chi Ping; the Director of the Representative Office of the Macao Special Administrative Region in Beijing, Ms Hong Wai; and the Director of the Protocol, Public Relations and External Affairs Office, Ms Lei Ut Mui.

Hebei officials present included: Deputy Secretary of the CPC Hebei Provincial Committee and Governor of Hebei Province, Mr Xu Qin; and member of the Standing Committee of CPC Hebei Provincial Committee and Provincial Vice Governor, Mr Chen Gang, who is also the Secretary of the CPC Committee of Xiong’an New Area.
