The 29th Macao Arts Festival (MAF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), will be held from 27 April to 31 May. Considering the public’s overwhelming response, additional performances will be offered for the most sought-after shows Sunset at the Shipyards, Migration, Sponge and When All Was Green, which will be on sale from 10am on 25 March (Sunday) at the Macau Ticketing Network outlets. Tickets may also be purchased through the internet or by telephone. Tickets are limited and subject to availability.
A number of programmes were highly sought after since the first day of ticket sales. In order to give the public more opportunities to enjoy the 29th MAF, the organiser added the following performances: Sunset at the Shipyards by the Dream Theater Association, on 29 April (Sunday) at 3pm; Migration by the Macau Experimental Theatre, on 6 May (Sunday) at 3pm; Sponge by Turned on Its Head from the United Kingdom, on 12 May (Saturday) at 5pm; and When All Was Green by The Key Theatre from Israel, on 20 May (Sunday) at 3pm.
This year’s MAF includes several local programmes, such as the dance and installation play Humming of the Landscape, a show developed by Comuna de Pedra Arts and Cultural Association based on its previous performance in the Macao City Fringe Festival; The Night just before the Forest, a co-production of a famed French play between Dirks Theatre Arts Association and an Irish director; the dance performance Les Curious Fringes – Blast of the Cave by choreographer Tracy Wong. The Festival also includes Macao’s intangible cultural heritage, such as Cantonese operas Hanjiang Gate and Dream of the Red Chamber, the Classical Chinese Quyi Showcase with Naamyam narrative songs and the Patuá Theatre What’s serving?. All of these are excellent shows are certainly not to be missed.
The MAF’s Outreach Programme is also rich and varied, including talks, workshops, artists talks, art critique, accessibility services and movie screenings, among others. It further includes pre-show talks led by professional art critics and performers for the performances 32 rue Vandenbranden, Trojan Women and Kafka’s The Tria, which allows the audience to get to know about the shows before the performance.
