Macao Orchestra to present ‘20th Century Music Innovation’ concert at Dom Pedro V Theatre in April

The Macao Orchestra (OM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, is going to stage the concert ‘20th Century Music Innovation’ at Dom Pedro V Theatre on 7 April at 8pm, presenting chamber music works by a number of 20th century composers. Tickets are now available at the Macau Ticketing Network.

The co-ordination of each instrument in each part is essential in performing chamber music – it puts to test the collaboration among the musicians and the expression of their sentiments. This concert will present works by several American composers, enabling the audience to experience the charm and flexibility of chamber music. While Samuel Barber’s Serenade for String Orchestra embodies the more traditional and lyrical style of composition, Igor Stravinsky’s Octet for Wind Instruments demonstrates how the neoclassical trend was led. In addition, the String Quartet No. 1, with its avant-garde implications, turned Charles Ives into a great pioneer in the modern American music scene. Despite their traditional formal titles, the three pieces highlight the trend of co-existence of styles in that eclectic era.

Before the concert and on the same day, OM will specially hold the ‘Music Hour with Musicians’ at the Mirror Hall of Dom Pedro V Theatre at 7pm, where Wu Tianxia (Principal Horn) and Li Na (Principle Second Violin) will share their insights about the featured works. Admission to the event is free. Seats can now be reserved by calling (853) 2853 0782 during office hours or through OM's WeChat official account ‘Macao Orchestra’.

Tickets for the concert ‘20th Century Music Innovation’, priced at MOP120 and MOP100 with a range of special offers, are now available through the ticketing hotline at (853) 2855 5555. For details and programme enquiries, please visit Macao Orchestra’s webpage at www.icm.gov.mo/om.
