The Macao Orchestra (OM, from the Portuguese acronym) of the Cultural Affairs Bureau takes young Macao musicians this Saturday (14 April), at 8pm, to the University of Macau – University Hall (N2) to present the concert “The Future of Classical Music” under the guidance of OM’s Assistant Conductor, Francis Kan. Admissionis free.
OM offers young musicians a platform to bring to life their musical dreams. Annually, the Orchestra organizes a joint performance with young musicians and music lovers to allow them to showcase their talent. This year, under the baton of OM’s Assistant Conductor, Francis Kan, the young musicians will interpret “Nimrod” from Elgar’s Enigma Variations, Britten’s “Simple Symphony” and Sibelius’ “Finlandia”, among other pieces. The programme’s richness and the greater challenge presented by some of the selected pieces will fully reveal the musician’s abilities. Taking part in the concert will be the University of Macau String Orchestra, the University of Macau Symphonic Band, the Macau Strings Association, the Macao Conervatory Students’ Philarharmonic and students from the Macao Polytechnic Institute Music Programme. Also taking to the stage will be young musicians from Macau, namelyChan Hoi Kei, Wu Jun Yao, Yu Zhensu, Wai Kin Hong, Cheong Hei Io, Vit Polášek, Lei Ka Chon, Tam Chi Tong, Ieong Kuan Kit, Moc Vitorino, Lu Hong Hoi and Chon Teng.
