The University of Macau (UM) and the Secretariat for Transport and Public Works today (11 April) held a lecture titled ‘A Dialogue between Young People and the Secretary on the Infrastructure Development in Macao’. Raimundo Arrais do Rosário, secretary for transport and public works of the Macao SAR government, was the keynote speaker.
In his welcome speech, UM Rector Yonghua Song said that the talk can help students learn what they can’t learn from books and broaden their horizons.
During the talk, Rosário, along with 11 heads of bureaus and offices under the secretariat, discussed with UM faculty members and students the current development of key infrastructure projects in Macao, including the Macao Light Rapid Transit, the Macao New Urban Zone, the artificial islands of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, and the expansion project of the Macau International Airport. Rosário advised UM students to seize the opportunity to develop various skills so that they can contribute to the development of Macao in the future.
In the Q&A session, students raised many questions to the speakers. Some students wanted to learn more about the relationship between large-scale infrastructure projects and economic growth of Macao. Others asked how Macao can improve its overall competitiveness. Still others asked the guests about the career prospects for engineering majors in Macao. The secretary and heads of bureaus and offices shared professional opinions and industry insights with the students.
