Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the 28th Macao Arts Festival (MAF) presents a variety of extraordinary performances this week, including ANECKXANDER: a tragic autobiography of the body, Hu(r)mano, Rusty Nails & Other Heroes, the Cantonese opera The Tale of Lady General and the environmental artwork Remote Macao, exploring the various possibilities of space by means of different art manifestations.
In ANECKXANDER: a tragic autobiography of the body, to be held from 5 to 7 May on the 2nd Floor of the Old Court Building for three consecutive nights, Belgian dancerAlexander Vantournhout re-examines his own body in a minimal setting and performs a solo balancing the fine line between tragedy and comedy. On 5 and 6 May, an emerging Portuguese choreographer, Marco da Silva Ferreira, presents the piece Hu(r)mano, exploring the tension between city dwellers and the city.
Rusty Nails & Other Heroes by TAMTAM objektentheater, from The Netherlands, to be held from 5 to 7 May, makes use of different materials, images, music and videos to create an amusing theatre of objects. On 7 May, the Cantonese opera The Tale of Lady General shows young Cantonese opera artists’ performing techniques. Starting from 6 May, the environmental play Remote Macao by German-based art group Rimini Protokoll, a “voice-led journey”, invites participants to put on their headphones and stroll through the city’s streets and lanes. The meeting point will be at the São Miguel Arcanjo Cemetery.
