Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 57 institutions offering vocational training courses in 2017, an increase of 6 institutions compared with 2016. A total of 1,685 courses were organised, down by 1.9% year-on-year. Total number of participants rose by 1.1% to 66,500.
Analysed by course type, Business & Administration courses had the highest number of participants, accounting for 32.0% (21,269) of the total, followed by Computing courses at 12.4% (8,238) and Language courses at 11.3% (7,492); number of participants attending Tourism, Gaming & MICE Events courses surged by 128.2% year-on-year to 7,327. The overall course completion rate was 82.5%, down by 2.1 percentage points.
Among the 1,685 vocational training courses, 748 were organised for enterprises or institutions by 19 training institutions, up by 9.8% year-on-year, which indicated that local enterprises and organisations attached greater importance to vocational training of employees. Number of participants grew by 9.9% to 26,950, with the majority taking Business & Administration courses, at 37.5% (10,093); participants taking Language courses (4,392) and Tourism, Gaming & MICE Events courses (4,197) made up 16.3% and 15.6% respectively of the total.
Survey on Vocational Training covers institutions that offered vocational training courses. Information on course types and participants are collected with the aim to understand the provision of and resident participation in vocational training in Macao.
