Guided by the Ministry of Commerce, the Government of Macao Special Administrative Region and the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, jointly organised by the China International Contractors Association and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, the 9th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF) will take place at the Venetian Macao on 7 and 8 June, and will be joined by elites from the political, commercial and academic sectors from home and abroad. The theme for this edition is New Growth Drivers for Better Infrastructure and Closer Connectivity.
The Premier of the State Council Li Keqiang mentioned in the Report on the Work of the Government published on 5 March that the country shall strengthen its new drivers of development, fortify its emerging industry, expedite the development and application of artificial intelligence, transform and upgrade traditional industries with new technology, new industrial environment and new modes of operation, and advance in the international co-operation of the “Belt and Road” Initiative.
To further respond to the Premier’s proposal, on the first day of 9th IIICF the Belt and Road Infrastructure Development Index 2018 and the Annual Report on Development of “the Belt and Road” Construction (2018) were released. During the event, two themed forums and eleven parallel forums will be held to discuss three major topics: firstly, how to nurture new drivers of development, its influence and application in international infrastructure development that pivots on new technologies, new industries, new industrial environment and new modes of operation, under the lead of technological changes; secondly, enhancing the integration of the “Belt and Road” Initiative and the new drivers of development to achieve interconnection of infrastructure development; thirdly, how to construct healthier mechanism for social capital investment to attract and draw more social capital to the infrastructure domain. Furthermore, a vast array of business activities including exhibitions, project promotion and business matching will be held to create a comprehensive and multilateral interaction space to allow quality networking and co-operation among all participants.
Aside from the event itself, the IIICF also provides a stage for Macao and its role as the China-PSC platform. The co-organisers of the 9th IIICF include Macao governmental departments and professional associations, including the Monetary Authority of Macao, the Permanent Secretariat of Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), the Macao Chamber of Commerce, the Macau Association of Banks, the Macau Construction Association, the Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macau, the Macao Association of Building Contractors and Developers, the Macau Construction Machinery Engineering Association, the Macau Institution of Engineers, the Macau Institution of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, the Architects Association of Macau, the Macau Society of Civil and Structural Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers of Macau. Guided by the co-organizers, this event is actively joined by the Chinese and Portuguese industrial and commercial sector in Macao, local financial service industry, architecture and construction sector, professionals and returned overseas Chinese communities. Moreover, a great number of leaders from political and different professional areas have been invited to join IIICF this year, including governmental officials from Mainland China and overseas countries, leaders from multilateral development entities and international financial institutions such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the African Export-Import Bank, the African Development Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, as well as enterprises from Mainland China, renowned general contractors from home and abroad, representatives from the engineer equipment sector and the industrial chain.
Since 2012, the International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum has been successfully staged in Macao for six consecutive years. The previous edition of IIICF embraced a fruitful result, where the signings of 24 commercial agreements, framework agreements and memoranda of understanding were facilitated by 14 themed forums and parallel forums as well as 220 business meetings.
