UM and Zhejiang University have signed a collaboration agreement to promote training of high-calibre medical professionals
The University of Macau (UM) and Zhejiang University (ZU) recently signed an agreement on full collaboration in the field of life sciences. According to the agreement, both parties will take advantage of their unique strengths and carry out mutually beneficial long-term collaboration in training innovative professionals and high-calibre medical professionals, in applying for major projects in China and Macao, in developing innovative products, and in promoting the development of medical technologies and medical industries in Macao and Zhejiang.
A delegation from UM, led by UM Rector Yonghua Song, recently visited Zhejiang University, and was warmly received by ZU’s Party Secretary Zou Xiaodong. Both parties signed an agreement on collaboration in training high-calibre medical professionals, research on medical technologies, and related matters.
According to the agreement, UM’s Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) and Zhejiang University’s School of Medicine will jointly launch a bachelor of science dual degree programme and a dual degree programme in medicine so as to provide an attractive new option for students from Macao and Zhejiang who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine. Each year, ZU’s School of Medicine will select some students to participate in the summer exchange activities at UM. UM’s FHS and ZU’s School of Medicine will also launch a joint postgraduate training programme and establish a collaborative centre for innovation in medicine.
Other members of the ZU delegation included Li Min, director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office; Yang Bo, dean of the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences; Feng Xinhua, director of Life Sciences Institute; Yu Luyang, associate dean of the College of Life Sciences; Fang Xiangming, associate dean of the School of Medicine; and Fang Gang, deputy director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office. Other members of the UM delegation included Yuen Ka-Veng, interim dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology and registrar of UM; Ren-He Xu, associate dean (research) of the Faculty of Health Sciences; Li Peng, associate dean of the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences and Wong Kei, director of the Rector’s Office.
