UM will establish two educational bases to nurture professionals in various fields

The University of Macau (UM) will establish two educational bases, namely the Macao Base for Primary & Secondary Education in Humanities & Social Sciences, and the Macao Base for Primary & Secondary STEM Education. A series of training programmes that tap into the university’s unique advantages will be launched to provide a multifaceted education for local students so as to create a sustainable pool of talented people for Macao.

Comprised of UM’s Centre for Chinese History and Culture, Chinese-Portuguese Bilingual Teaching and Training Centre, Confucius Institute, and Centre for Macau Studies, the Macao Base for Primary & Secondary Education in Humanities & Social Sciences aims to promote traditional Chinese culture and a multifaceted education, as well as education in the humanities and social sciences in Macao in collaboration with primary and secondary schools and other educational institutions.

With UM’s centre for science and engineering promotion as the core component, the Macao Base for Primary & Secondary STEM Education aims to support science promotion activities in the local community and provide continuous training for teachers and students from local secondary schools by taking advantage of UM’s research resources. It will also collaborate with people from all strata of society to promote science education in Macao. The two bases will be launched on 26 June and 28 June respectively.

In addition, to popularise education in the humanities, social sciences, and science, UM will launch a series of training and teaching programmes, including a master’s degree programme in Chinese history and culture, a certificate programme in the civilisation of Macao and China, a training programme for instructors of courses in Chinese history and culture, comic book series on Chinese history and culture, and the STEM training programme (which includes science-themed summer camps, training workshops in technological innovations for local primary and secondary school teachers, and training for secondary school students participating in domestic and international competitions in technological innovations.)
