UM recommended to receive ten prizes at Macao Science and Technology Awards

UM has been recommended to receive ten prizes in the 2018 Macao Science and Technology Awards and is expected to win the most awards in Macao

The list of the recipients of the 2018 Macao Science and Technology Awards has been released. The University of Macau (UM) has been recommended to receive ten prizes out of the 16 prizes in the Natural Science Award category, Technological Invention Award category, and Science and Technology Progress Award category. The university is expected to win the most prizes among all institutions in Macao at this year’s award.

UM has been recommended to receive five out of seven awards in the Natural Science Award category. UM projects that will receive second prizes in this category are ‘Finite Difference Solutions of Fractional Partial Differential Equations and Their Fast Algorithms’ and ‘A New Method for Analyzing the Multi-degree-of-freedom Nonlinear Stochastic Dynamical Systems and Solving High-dimensional Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov Equations’. Projects that will receive third prizes in this category are ‘Random Matrices and Some of its Applications’, ‘Quaternions and Linear Canonical Analysis with Applications to Color Face Recognition and Edge Detection’, and ‘Delivery systems for active ingredients from Chinese medicine: targeting and modulating cellular microenvironment ’.

In addition, UM has been recommended to receive four prizes out of the six prizes in the Technological Invention Award category. UM projects that will receive second prizes are ‘Analog and Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuit Technologies Enabling a Smart Macau’, ‘Innovative Technologies and Applications for Force-Sensing Automated

Micromanipulation’, and ‘Adaptive Hybrid Coupling Inverter Topologies in Different Electric Applications’. UM project ‘Key detection technologies for the monitoring of Chinese medicine and food safety’ will receive a third prize.

Three prizes will be presented in the Science and Technology Progress Award category. UM project, ‘International Standard Development of Tienchi Gingsen (Sanqi) Based on Characters of Chinese Medicine’, will receive a second prize.
