“Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” presents a program filled with special events

The “Cultural Forum between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” is dedicated to the theme of “cultural diversity”

With the support by the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture, and organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the first edition of the “Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” has been launched. In order to promote the cultural exchange between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and establish an exchange and communication platform, a series of special events will be successively held on 7 and 8 July, including the “Cultural Forum between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” to be held on the 4th floor of the Macao Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre for two consecutive days, also including the inauguration of a series of four contemporary art exhibitions that are part of the “Annual Arts Exhibition between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”.

The “Cultural Forum between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”, dedicated to the theme “Cultural Diversity”, will be held on 7 (full day) and 8 July (in the morning), on the 4th floor of the Macao Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre. Twelve experts from Mainland China, Macao, Hong Kong, Portugal, Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, Cape Verde, East-Timor, São Tomé and Príncipe and Guinea-Bissau were invited to share their ideas about the significance of multiculturalism and to make thematic presentations about research experiences related to the field of culture in their own respective countries of origin. Through this Forum, IC hopes to encourage a greater cultural cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, with Macao as a centre, thereby also motivating public interest in treasuring and protecting the unique and diversified cultural resources of Macao, while also appreciating the cultural context of China and Portuguese-speaking countries. All are welcome to participate.

The series of four exhibitions of the “Annual Arts Exhibition between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” will be inaugurated on 7 and 8 July, at 3:30pm and 5:30pm, respectively, at various exhibition venues of Macao, including the Tak Chun Macau Art Garden, the Gallery of the Orient Foundation, the Ox Warehouse and the Macao Museum of Art. Renowned curators from Mainland China, Macao and abroad were invited to organize the four contemporary art exhibitions, namely “Alter Ego”, “The Universe”, “Penetrate” and “Aiya”. These four exhibitions are closely connected to the distinct exhibition venues they have adopted in Macao, also being intimately linked to the urban environment context of Macao. In addition, the exhibition specially invited artists to create public art at the Spectacle in MGM COTAI and in front of the building at No. 12, Praça de Ponte e Horta, allowing the audience to get close and enjoy a unique style of artworks. In a showcase of the multiple facets of contemporary art, these exhibitions present representative works from Mainland China, Macao, Hong Kong and eight Portuguese-speaking countries, providing a comprehensive overview of current art trends in China and the Portuguese-speaking countries.

The first edition of the “Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” is co-organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office and the Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau.
