The Macao Cultural Centre, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents Giselle, one of the greatest classical pieces of all time by the Teatro alla Scala Ballet Company. This world-class, full-length production will be staged in four shows, running from 7 to 9 September at the Grand Auditorium.
Fascinating as ever, this iconic piece in two acts is the romantic ballet par excellence. Set between contrasting atmospheres, moving effortlessly between a sunny world and a terrible, dark kingdom inhabited by spirits, Giselle has been captivating audiences around the world telling the story of a young peasant girl who dies of grief when she discovers her sweetheart is betrothed to another.
This revival of Coralli-Perrot’s unforgettable choreography takes us back to the Romantic roots of the renowned Milanese ballet, during the 1800’s. The company would further elevate its statute, featuring the best names of the 20th century dance panorama, from choreographers Roland Petit and Maurice Béjart to various guest stars like the legendary Rudolf Nureyev and artists with links to the prestigious Ballets Russes. To this day, the mythical La Scala Ballet remains one of the most celebrated companies in the world, continuing to expand its visibility both at home and abroad through the revival of the most influential classical repertoire.
In parallel to the show, CCM organizes a workshop conceived to unveil some of La Scala Ballet’s secrets and basic ballet techniques. Hosted by the Italian company’s professionals, these sessions will provide participants with a chance to discover and physically experiment the dance moves they will eventually watch on stage.
