To better provide basic social security for people with disabilities, the Government of the Macao SAR has established the “temporary disability allowance” as a long-term measure through the making of law. Law No. 6/2018 was published in the Official Gazette today (July 16). From October 1, the application requirement for the disability pension in the current social security system, “the disability must occur after a person qualifies as a beneficiary” will be abolished, so that the disability pension can be universally applied to all persons with disabilities.
Since 1 October 2018, the “temporary disability allowance” will be cancelled, and the beneficiaries who receive the “temporary disability allowance” of the Social Welfare Bureau (abbreviated to SWB in Macao) will be automatically changed to receive disability pension of the social security system, and the beneficiaries concerned need not go through any formalities.
The Social Security Fund will later notify the beneficiaries concerned about the payments by mail, and the disability pension of October to December 2018 will be paid to them in mid-October, and the amount is the same as the original “temporary disability allowance”.
Before the transfer of “temporary disability allowance”, i.e., on or before 30 September 2018, the SWB will not change the payment and application procedures for the related allowance, and will not affect the rights and interests of the beneficiaries.
If you have any questions, please call the Social Security Fund at 2853 2850 or the SWB at 2836 6166 during office hours for enquiries.
