Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 2,602,853 in June 2018, up by 9.4% year-on-year. Overnight visitors (1,445,431) and same-day visitors (1,157,422) grew by 7.2% and 12.4% respectively year-on-year. The average length of stay of visitors held steady year-on-year at 1.3 days, with that of overnight visitors rising by 0.1 day to 2.2 days while that of same-day visitors staying at 0.2 day.
Visitors from Mainland China increased by 13.5% year-on-year to 1,752,222 in June, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme rising by 15.0% to 810,339. Mainland visitors came primarily from Guangdong Province (698,795), Hunan Province (84,683) and Fujian Province (67,856). Visitors from Hong Kong (501,451) and Taiwan (92,897) increased by 2.0% and 7.8% respectively year-on-year; however, those from the Republic of Korea (57,787) dropped by 13.4%. Meanwhile, visitors from the United States (16,405) and the United Kingdom (4,031) registered year-on-year growth, whereas those from Australia (5,860) and Canada (4,484) decreased.
Analysed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by land grew by 12.1% year-on-year to 1,478,786, with those arriving through the Border Gate (1,274,010) increasing by 12.1%. Visitor arrivals by sea went up by 1.4% year-on-year to 854,073; those disembarking at the Taipa Ferry Terminal (363,267) rose by 8.3% while those arriving at the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal (490,806) dropped by 3.2%. Visitor arrivals by air totalled 269,994, up by 24.7% year-on-year.
In the first half year of 2018, visitor arrivals totalled 16,814,190, up by 8.0% year-on-year; overnight visitors (8,767,071) and same-day visitors (8,047,119) increased by 8.3% and 7.8% respectively. The average length of stay of visitors held steady year-on-year at 1.2 days, with that of overnight visitors (2.2 days) rising by 0.1 day and that of same-day visitors (0.2day) remaining unchanged. Analysed by country/place, visitors from Mainland China (11,705,164) and Taiwan (524,947) increased by 13.3% and 0.9% respectively year-on-year, while those from the Republic of Korea (423,952) and Hong Kong (3,000,131) dropped by 2.2% and 3.7% respectively. Visitors from the United States (96,586) recorded year-on-year growth, whereas those from Australia (44,776), Canada (36,859) and the United Kingdom (28,195) declined.
