Grand Opening of the Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair 2018 on 27 July Turning Over a New Leaf on its 10th Anniversary

Press Conference of the “Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair 2018” and the “Macao Franchise Expo 2018”

Jointly organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, the Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair 2018 (2018GMBPF) will be held at the Venetian Macao from 27 to 29 July. The 2018GMBPF continues to encompass trade, cultural exchanges, shopping, leisure and entertainment. To celebrate the GMBPF’s 10th anniversary, in addition to enriching the Belt and Road exhibition area by adding Malaysia Products Exhibition & Sales Area, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Exhibition Area which features the theme “Guangdong-Macao 10th Anniversary Pier” will see its debut at this edition of MFE. Moreover, the “Guangdong-Macao Young Entrepreneur Exhibition Area” is also launched for the first time to support participating enterprises, especially those established by young entrepreneurs, in generating more business opportunities for trading and branding, joining the national development Belt and Road Initiative. While strengthening Guangdong-Macao trade co-operation and seizing business opportunities brought by the New Era, this event also sets up exhibition area for Congjiang county of Guizhou province, in order to support the poverty easing of Congjiang.

A Solid Foundation for Guangdong-Macao Trade Co-operation, the GMBPF Paves the Path for Innovative Developments for the Tenth Years

The Framework for Development and Reform Planning for Pearl River Delta Region, the Framework Agreement on Cooperation Between Guangdong and Macao, and the Agreement between the Mainland and Macao on Achieving Basic Liberalisation of Trade in Services in Guangdong, as well as the country’s Belt and Road Initiative and series of measures thereof have injected impetus into the building of closer ties between Guangdong and Macao, together with the forthcoming promulgation of the Development Plan for a City Cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area. All of these are presenting unprecedented opportunities for Guangdong-Macao co-operation and the growth of the mutually complementary strengths of these two places.

Guangdong-Macao trade co-operation has been yielding fruitful results over the years. More significantly, a long-term co-operation mechanism has been established in the convention and exhibition industry—the GMBPF is one of the many successful cases in point. Over the past nine years, the governments and the business sectors from Guangdong and Macao have shown great support and attached importance to the GMBPF. The products featured in the GMBPF evolve accordingly with the trends. By constantly improving the exhibition rationale and the approaches to stage the exhibition, the GMBPF has grown into an annual flagship exhibition with ever-enriching contents that is well received by the public.

A Paradise for Quality Products

The venue takes up an area of 9,000 square metres with more than 380 booths. The Guangdong Province has sent about 132 enterprises to participate. Products presented in the “Guangdong Province Branded Products Exhibition & Sales Area” are branded products from various places in the province, including food products, daily necessities, household appliances, gifts and more. Many of these products are bearers of “Famous Chinese Brands”, “Chinese National Well-known Trademarks” and “Famous Brands of Guangdong Province”, crafting a great occasion for the public to find quality products from Guangdong.

The “Macao Featured Products Area” has attracted as many as 112 enterprises to showcase “Made in Macao”, “Macao Brand”, “Designed in Macao” products and other cultural and creative products from Macao. It also features products from Portuguese-speaking countries distributed by Macao enterprises, including souvenirs, food products, and cultural and creative products. By presenting the uniqueness of Macao brands to the public, this area aims at supporting local SMEs to expand their markets and increase brand awareness.

52 booths are set up in the “Belt and Road Area”. The exhibition area for Malaysian products is freshly introduced, in addition to the return of those for Myanmar and Indonesia. By showcasing local speciality products such as daily necessities, crafts, jewellery and jade articles, garments, food products, and many more, it brings the public a more diversified shopping experience. It can thus be seen that products serve as a medium through which cultural exchange and peoples-to-people bonds are strengthened. In particular, the Malaysian exhibition area features 20 enterprises, including 12Myanmar and 10 from Indonesia. In line with the “Agreement on Promoting Foreign Trade and Development via MICE Industry” signed by IPIM and Congjiang county of Guizhou, an exhibition area will be specifically set up at the venue to showcase the cultural products, agricultural and particularly animal husbandry products from Congjiang county, bringing more options to the public on one hand while supporting the poverty easing of Congjiang county on the other.

Flashback to the Wonderful Moments at the 10th Anniversary Pier; Macao-Shunde Cooking Battle at the Celebrity Cooking Live Show

Following the great success of the “Guangdong & Macao Delicacies Express” last year, against the background of the 10th anniversary of the GMBPF, the “Guangdong-Macao 10th Anniversary Pier” will feature the Maritime Silk Road as its theme and elements of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area. The area is divided into two parts, namely, “Commercial Vessels of Guangdong Province” and “Interchange of Macao Merchandise Trading”, with respectively 47 and 23 booths and showcasing all kinds of trading goods. The “Guangdong-Macao Young Entrepreneur Exhibition Area” is freshly introduced to the GMBPF this year, with 26 booths. It presents a great opportunity for young entrepreneurs from Guangdong and Macao to showcase and sell their original products. A number of concurrent activities and product promotional sessions will be held during the GMBPF, events such as the “Roundtable Conference of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Commercial Organisations”, “Macao-Congjiang Co-operation on Trade and Economics Series—Marketing Strategies for Branding and Exhibitions”, “Sharing Session on Young Entrepreneurship”.

In addition, VR technology will be employed for the first time in the GMBPF to produce an online VR catalogue, through which the public can access a variety of innovative products before the exhibition. Antonieta Manhao, a renowned chef from Macao, is invited to the Celebrity Cooking Live Show to demonstrate her culinary arts and share her experience together with He Huihong from Shunde, a city in Guangdong that is also designated as “Creative City of Gastronomy”. What’s more, successors of legendary cuisine cooks from Macao and Shunde will bring several delicacies for tasting sessions and tell the fascinating stories behind the delicacies. There are also prize interactive games, consumer lucky draws and a lucky draw finale, sending out a mountain of exciting prizes to the audiences. In addition, electronic payment is introduced to the GMBPF, so that participants can buy to their heart’s content. To extend the effectiveness of the GMBPF, guided tours to local neighbourhoods for exhibitors are organised to boost community economies, benefit local SMEs, and help exhibitors gain a better understanding of the investment environment of Macao and explore local business opportunities.

To provide a more convenient payment method to the exhibitors and visitors, this year’s GMBPF has introduced the “On-site Electronic Payment Service”, which is compatible with several electronic payment providers, such as “MACAU PASS”, “MACAU Pay”, “Alipay” and “WeChat Pay”.

This year’s GMBPF will once again be held concurrently with the “Macao Franchise Expo 2018”. The GMBPF is open from 11am to 8pm on 27 July and from 10am to 8pm on 28 and 29 July, with free admissions. In order to help realise the concept of public transport priority and green travel, free shuttle bus to the exhibition venue will be provided. Free parking spaces are available in Hall D and E of the Convention and Exhibition Centre. Due to limited availability, parking spaces are provided on a first-come-first-served basis.
