“The Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair 2018” Ends in Great Success

The last day of GMBPF attracts lots of visitors

Jointly organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, the Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair 2018 (2018 GMBPF), held for three consecutive days, ended today (29th) and proved to be a resounding success. The atmosphere at various exhibition areas was very vibrant, with residents and visitors able to have fun shopping while exhibitors reported pleasing sales volume. During the three-day event, the number of visitors was pretty much the same as last year. To extend the effectiveness of the event, guided tours to local neighbourhoods for exhibitors were organised to boost community economies and benefit local SMEs.

This year, GMBPF took up an area of 9,000 square metres with over 380 booths, featuring an array of exhibition areas including the “Guangdong Province Branded Products Exhibition & Sales Area”, “Macao Featured Products Area”, “Belt and Road Exhibition Area”, “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Exhibition Area”, “Guangdong-Macao Young Entrepreneur Exhibition Area” and an exhibition area for Congjiang county of Guizhou, Meanwhile, events such as the “Roundtable Conference of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Commercial Organisations”, “Macao-Congjiang Co-operation on Trade and Economics Series – Marketing Strategies for Branding and Exhibitions”, “Sharing Session on Young Entrepreneurship” and product promotional sessions were also held to help enterprises seize business opportunities and expand their markets.

A five-year exhibitor, Ms. So, person-in-charge of a local frozen meat company, found that her products are very popular with local residents, and she hopes to promote the company's frozen meat products through GMBPF. Second-time exhibitor and person-in-charge of a food company in Shenzhen, Mr. Huang pointed out that the scale of GMPBF is large and he is happy with the effective promotion and also the number of visitors. He has discussed co-operation with other exhibitors and he had achieved expected results of participating in the exhibtion.

The exhibition area for Malaysian products was freshly introduced this year and it welcomed lots of visitors. Ms. Zhang, an exhibitor, said that Malaysian food product is popular with Macao residents. In addition to B2C partners, she is also seeking B2B partners through participating in GMBPF. Before her participation, she has already learned about the number of visitors of the previous editions. She is pleased with the number of visitors and the results achieved in these three days.

Myanmar exhibitor N.Nang.Mai found that many residents showed interest in her products - Myanmar's natural herbs and spices such as lemongrass and turmeric. She said that her participation in this exhibition enabled her to meet agents preliminarily intending to build partnership and they will further discuss details of co-operation afterwards. She also noted that the concurrent organisations of with the GMBPF and the Macao Franchise Expo helps sharing visitor flow and generating synergistic effects.

Mr. Li, an Indonesian exhibitor, expressed his satisfaction with the event’s overall effectiveness and the number of visitors. As a first-time exhibitor, he tried to test the waters of the Macao market by selling Indonesian wild honey, royal jelly, beverages and other products, and it turned out that many people bought his products. He was happy with partnership establishment as many companies had approached him for businesses.

Mr. Chan, a representative from a local company, said that his company's coin exchange machine can help people convert coins into electronic money or deposit them into their bank accounts. Through GMPBF, he wants to introduce this service to Macao because there is no similar service available at present.

The 2018 GMBPF was once again held concurrently with the MFE this year. With this year marking the 10th anniversary of GMBPF, the organiser offers extra highlights to enhance the experience of residents and tourists and make it a feast for theireyes, ears, and taste buds. Visitors flocked to various “check-in points”, “game spots” and booths inside the venue. Ms. Lei, a resident who “checks-in” every year at GMBPF, returned with her friends for shopping on Sunday. She considered GMBPF an annual brand event of Macao which she could never miss, and her favourite purchases were food products. Mr. Lam, a local resident, enjoyed the exciting VR games because he never had such experience before. He thought the event was well-organised and he spent over a thousand dollars mainly on food products. Some tourists are visiting every year because GMBPF “fulfil their wish for shopping, eating, playing games and redeeming prizes all-in-one.”

Meanwhile, the organisers arranged guided tours for exhibitors to venture in local neighbourhoods to extend the reach of the event to outside the venue, so as to boost community economies and benefit local SMEs.
