【Tourism + gastronomy】Nine Cities of Gastronomy from South and North Americas present culinary delights at “City of Gastronomy Showcase”

The International Cities of Gastronomy Fest, Macao” welcomes the public at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf from 14 to 23 June. As one of the three major highlights, the “City of Gastronomy Showcase” brings together chefs from 26 Creative Cities of Gastronomy from worldwide across Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania, South and North Americas, to conduct 60 wonderful sessions of culinary showcase. The event fosters concerted development between “tourism + gastronomy” and radiates Macao’s dynamic and strengths as a platform and UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.

UM holds International Symposium of Geotechnical Aspects of Underground Construction in Soft Ground

The 11th International Symposium of Geotechnical Aspects of Underground Construction in Soft Ground (IS-Macau 2024) was held at the University of Macau (UM). The symposium was jointly organised by UM, Technical Committee 204 (TC204) of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), the Civil Engineering Laboratory of Macau, and the Macau Association for Geotechnical Engineering. More than 150 delegates from 15 countries and regions, including the UK, Norway, Denmark, Italy, Dubai, Singapore, Japan, mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao, attended the symposium to exchange views and promote cooperation on geotechnical aspects of underground construction in soft ground.


Macao Orchestra presents the concert “70 Years Back in Time” in collaboration with French pianist Lise de la Salle performing works by Sergei Rachmaninoff and Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov

Presented by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Macao Orchestra Company Limited and the Sands China Performing Arts Programme, the concert “70 Years Back in Time – Rachmaninoff” will be held on 6 July (Saturday), at 8pm, at The Venetian Theatre. In collaboration with French pianist Lise de la Salle, under the baton of the Macao Orchestra’s Music Director and Principal Conductor Lio Kuokman, the Orchestra will perform three works by Russian composers Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov and Sergei Rachmaninoff. Tickets are now on sale at the Macau Ticketing Network.

List of Special Allocation from Budget Surplus for the Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund for 2024 is Announced

The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) will announce tomorrow (20 June) the list of Special Allocation from Budget Surplus for the Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System for 2024. This year, a total of 389,346 people was included in the list and 183,181 people were not. Residents can check their names in the list via the “Macao One Account”, the website of FSS at www.fss.gov.mo, self-service machine or 24-hour interactive voice response hotline 2823 0230. Objection statements and fund withdrawal applications for certain reasons can be filed via the “Macao One Account”. At the same time, residents may also check their registration status of automatic withdrawal and whether they satisfy the eligibility requirements for automatic payment, via the “Macao One Account” and website of FSS.


Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for April 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that receipts of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments went down by 11.8% year-on-year in April 2024, owing to a high base of comparison resulting from the timing of the Easter holiday which fell in March this year compared to April last year. Receipts of Western Restaurants dropped by 22.8% while those of Local Style Cafes, Congee & Noodle Shops rose by 0.3%. Meanwhile, sales of the interviewed retailers slipped by 32.3% year-on-year in April. All types of interviewed retailers registered a year-on-year decline in sales, with Watches, Clocks & Jewellery Retailers recording the largest decrease (-44.6%) in sales.


Registration for the “Echo Programme – Band Training Camp” is open

To nurture talented and promising musicians in Macao and further elevate the level of original music composition in the region, the “Echo Programme – Band Training Camp”, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), will be open for registration from 20 June to 12 July. Professional music producers and musicians will provide selected bands with specialised training in band performance, stage performance, and music production to enhance their professional skills. Emerging bands in Macao are welcome to participate.
