5 days before the expiry of the Authorization to Stay

Application Procedures and Documents Required

  1. Application Approach
    1. The interested person or a legal representative is required to make the application 5 days before the expiry of the Authorization to Stay;
    2. The parent or guardian making the application on behalf of a minor is required to present his or her valid identification document and proof of their relationship; other representative is required to present a certified letter of authorization and his or her valid identification document.
  2. Documents to be Presented
    1. Unless otherwise noted, the original should be exhibited for authentication if a copy is submitted;
    2. The copy should be authenticated if the original cannot be exhibited.
  3. Document to be Submitted
    1. Application
      1. Applications for Residence Authorization submitted to the Residence and Stay Affairs Department of the Public Security Police Force
        1. A completed Application Form for Extension of Authorization to Stay (DARP/DARP M-5);
          [Note: The application form is available at the subdivision concerned and the website of the Public Security Police Force]
        2. A copy of the interested person’s valid passport / travel document (bio data page and observation pages only) used to apply for Residence Authorization, Slip of Authorization to Stay granted in last entry to Macao or identification document;
        3. Present the Application Acceptance Receipt.
      2. Applications for Residence Authorization submitted to the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM)
        1. A completed Application Form for Extension of Authorization to Stay (DARP/DARP M-5);
          [Note: The application form is available at the subdivision concerned and the website of the Public Security Police Force]
        2. A completed Declaration of Identity (DARP M-1);
          [Note:
          A. The Declaration is available at the subdivision concerned and the website of the Public Security Police Force;
          B. The interested person is required to sign the Declaration in the presence of the staff accepting the application for verification. If he/she is not able to show up, the signature on the (completed) Declaration will be authenticated by the competent authorities, or the Declaration will have to be completed by a legal representative. The latter should also submit a certified letter of authorization, a copy of the interested person’s birth certificate, certificate of marital status (not applicable to unmarried applicants) and a document indicating the interested person’s residential address in Macao.]
        3. A copy of the interested person’s valid passport / travel document (bio data page and observation pages only) used to apply for Residence Authorization, Slip of Authorization to Stay granted in last entry to Macao or identification document; [Note: If another statutory document that can be used for immigration clearance in Macao is used for entry to Macao, it should also be presented.]
        4. 2 copies of the Declaration issued by IPIM to prove that the application for Residence Authorization is being processed.
    2. Renewal
      1. Applications for Residence Authorization submitted to the Residence and Stay Affairs Department of the Public Security Police Force
        1. A completed Application Form for Extension of Authorization to Stay (DARP/DARP M-5);
          [Note: The application form is available at the subdivision concerned and the website of the Public Security Police Force]
        2. A copy of the interested person’s valid passport / travel document (bio data page and observation pages only) used to apply for Residence Authorization, Slip of Authorization to Stay granted in last entry to Macao or identification document;
        3. Present the Application Acceptance Receipt.

Remarks / Points to Note

  1. According to Term 1, Article 66 of Law No. 16/2021, to apply for a visa, Authorization to Enter and Stay, Macao SAR Residence Authorization, Renewal or Extension of Residence Authorization means the interested person consents to have his or her personal information, which includes his or her biodata, treated by the Public Security Police Force.
  2. The Residence and Stay Affairs Department will reject the application for extension of Authorization to Stay outright in the following situations:
    1. The remaining validity of the interested person’s passport, travel document,  other documents accepted for the purpose of immigration control or return document is less than 90 days;
    2. The application is not written in any of the official languages, but applications written in English with no difficulty caused to the Public Security Police Force in the interpretation are excepted;
    3. The application is submitted late or the application lacks reasons obviously.
  3. Penalty for Overstay
    1. According to Item 2, Term 1, Article 90 of Law No. 16/2021, persons who overstay in the Macao Special Administrative Region should be fined MOP500 to 800 per overdue day or partial overdue day. The fine should not exceed MOP15000 and should be paid within the statutory 10 working days;
    2. According to Article 58 of the same law, the status of an overstayer who overstays for not more than 30 days, pays the fine upon giving himself or herself to the police or immediately after he or she is discovered and has never been fined for the same infraction in the past year can be normalized. Otherwise, the security measures of deportation and interdiction from entry will be taken. In addition, application for Residence Authorization and Special Authorization to Stay will not be permitted for 2 years counting from the date the entry interdiction expires.
