Special Authorization to Stay for Non-resident Students

Introduction

Service Coverage

1. Mainland students who intend to take a higher education program at a higher education institute in Macao are required to apply for Special Authorization to Stay (so-called Special Authorization to Stay for Students) or renewal / extension (program lasting for one scholastic year or more) of the Authorization according to Item 6, Term 1, Article 32 of Law No. 16/2021 and Articles 19-21 of Administrative Regulation No. 38/2021 in order to legally stay in Macao for study.
2. Persons coming from other countries / regions and studying at a higher education institute in Macao are required to apply for Special Authorization to Stay (so-called Special Authorization to Stay for Students) or renewal / extension (program lasting for one scholastic year or more) of the Authorization according to Item 6, Term 1, Article 32 of Law No. 16/2021 and Articles 19-21 of Administrative Regulation No. 38/2021 if the limit of stay granted in the original Authorization to Stay is not long enough for them to legally stay in Macao for study.

Application Eligibility

1.  Meeting the requirements stipulated in the Legal Regime of Immigration Control, Stay and Residence Authorization of the Macao Special Administrative Region and the supplementary administrative regulations
   (e.g.(1) Meeting the stipulations relevant to the system of entry, stay and residence authorization in Macao; and (2) Not in a lawfully restricted status.)
2. Admitted to a higher institute in Macao.
3. Limit of stay granted in original “Authorization to Stay” not long enough for the student to legally stay in Macao until the program ends.
