1. When should a holder of Healthcare Card for People with Special Diseases apply for renewal of the card?
In general, a Healthcare Card will be available for collection within 30 working days from the day of application; therefore, holders of Healthcare Card may apply for renewal of the Healthcare Card one month prior to its expiry.
2. Under what circumstances will a patient indicated in item b), paragraph 2, article 3 of Decree-Law no. 24/86/M not issued with a Healthcare Card for People with Special Diseases?
In event the patient is a beneficiary of the medical insurance system of an organization, or when the responsibility of healthcare of the patient can be transferred to third parties, relevant medical fees should be paid in full (100%) in accordance with the abovementioned Decree-Law, and the concerned patient is ineligible for the Healthcare Card. Besides, if long-term treatment is not needed or when services of the concerned clinics are free for local residents (e.g. Psychiatry Department, Oncology Department, Infectious Diseases Department), the patient can enjoy free services simply by presenting his/her Macao Resident Identity Card.
