1. What is the purpose of product classification?

The purpose of product classification is to inform the applicant of the category of the relevant product in Macao (e.g. “medicine (western medicine)”, “Chinese proprietary medicine”, “natural medicine” or “others”).


2. When should I apply for product classification?

Since the application of import of goods is regulated according to the product category, for unclassified products, applicants are advised to apply to the Pharmaceutical Administration Bureau for product classification; after the product category is determined, applicants may submit their import application in accordance with relevant regulation and procedures.


3. How long does the classification process take? How much is the application fee?

The Pharmaceutical Administration Bureau will issue the result of product classification to the applicant within 18 working days upon receipt of all application documents.

Besides, the application of product classification is completely free of charge.


4. If the outer package, label and package insert of the product are not presented in Chinese, Portuguese or English, is it possible to apply for product classification?

If the outer package, label and package insert of the product are not presented in Chinese, Portuguese or English, the Pharmaceutical Administration Bureau will not be able to provide product classification service for the product.
