Vehicle Characteristic Modification – Application for installation of exhaust aftertreatment device


How to apply

Documents to submit:

  1. Form no. 2*;
  2. Vehicle characteristics modification form (No. 045/DV);
  3. Installation responsibility declaration form (No. 017/DV);
  4. The ID copy of the vehicle’s owner or his/her entrusted person;
  5. Original of the vehicle’s registration document (livrete, in Portuguese);
  6. Turnover tax and registration documents of the supplier of the exhaust aftertreatment device;
  7. Technical specifications document and certificate of compliance* of the exhaust aftertreatment device;
    *In accordance with the technical specifications set out by the Environmental Protection Bureau (Direcção dos Serviços de Protecção Ambiental, in Portuguese);
  8. Research and evaluation report from the device supplier about the suitability of installation;
  9. Two drawings showing the installation position of the device.

Documents to produce:

  1. Original of the identification document of the vehicle’s owner or his/her entrusted person;
  2. Original of the vehicle’s registration document (livrete, in Portuguese);
  3. Document of the registered vehicle owner;
  4. Valid insurance document of the vehicle.

  • Centre for Motor Vehicle Inspection (Centro de Inspecções de Veículos Automóveis, or CIVA, in Portuguese)
    Address: Next to the Centre for Driving Lessons and Exams (Centro de Aprendizagem e Exame de Condução, in Portuguese), in Cotai.
    Service hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 18:00 (open during lunch hours).
    Closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
  • Centre for Motorcycle Inspection (Centro de Inspecção de Motociclo em Macau, or CIMM, in Portuguese)
    Address: On the ground floor of the ETAR Public Car Park, at Avenida 1.º de Maio.
    Service hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 18:00 (open during lunch hours).
    Closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
  • Centro de Serviços da RAEM das Ilhas
    Address: Rua de Coimbra, n.º 225, 3.˚ andar, Taipa

Costs

Charges and fees

  • Assessment and approval of modification subject to application: MOP$3,000, plus,
    Application for special inspection: MOP$2,000 (per vehicle) or MOP$1,200 (per motor scooter/motorcycle)
  • Application form: Free
  • Stamp duty: Not required

Notes for attention

  1. The application can be made by the vehicle’s owner or his/her entrusted person.
  2. The vehicle concerned must undergo special inspection within 60 days from the day of application. If no special inspection took place within this period, a new application must be presented and an extra fee will be applied.
  3. No. 1 and no. 3 of article 26 of the Road Transport Regulation (Regulamento do Trânsito Rodoviário, in Portuguese) require that the accessories’ installation be safe and secure, and that their noise level be within the legal limits.
  4. The distance between the device’s installation position and any flammable material must be more than 10 cm, as required by no. 10 of article 26 of the Road Transport Regulation (Regulamento do Trânsito Rodoviário, in Portuguese).
  5. The distance between the device and the ground must be at least 13 cm.
  6. After passing the special inspection, the vehicle concerned will be issued a new registration document (livrete, in Portuguese) stating that it has exhaust aftertreatment device installed.
