The University of Macau (UM) today (21 March) kicked off the Career and Internship Fair 2019. This year’s fair attracted 110 companies, offering more than 5,000 job vacancies. In addition, over 50 companies offer more than 150 summer internship opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area for second- and third-year students.
In his speech, Vice Rector (Student Affairs) Billy So said that UM will continue to implement a series of initiatives in line with the Macao SAR government’s policy for building a better Macao through education. The university will focus on nurturing professionals in Chinese-Portuguese bilingual studies, Chinese history and culture, data science, innovation and entrepreneurship, physics, chemistry, and biomedical sciences. In addition, UM will continue to work closely with research institutes and companies in the Greater Bay Area.
According to UM’s latest Further Studies and Placement Survey, of the students who graduated in the 2017/2018 academic year with a bachelor’s degree, 75 per cent found a job before graduation, while 19.5 per cent chose to pursue further education. The top five industries where the graduates found employment are education (15.9 per cent), banking and finance (13.1 per cent), trade/wholesale/retail (8.3 per cent), entertainment and gaming (8.1 per cent), and hospitality (7.7 per cent), with the median monthly income being MOP 16,000.
A special recruitment event will be held on 27 March at 12:30pm, in Room-1001, Student Activity Centre (E31), UM. Nearly 230 job vacancies in Hengqin New Area will be provided, covering various industries, including biomedical sciences, biotechnology, manufacturing of smart devices, network technology, as well as banking and finance.
