The University of Macau (UM) held the Open Day today (12 January). The event attracted over 10,000 people, including students and their parents, Macao residents, and residents of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Through the event, participants learned more about UM’s education model, research achievements, and vibrant campus life. Some parents say that UM has a beautiful campus and excellent teaching and learning facilities. They hope to see their children study at UM, because they believe it will broaden their children’s horizons, enhance their competitiveness, and help them transition to the next stage of their lives more easily, whether they choose to pursue further studies or find a job after graduation.

The Chinese New Year is around the corner. “The World at Their Fingertips – Exhibition of Weaving, Dyeing and Embroidery Skill Art of Jiangsu Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region” will be held from 22 January to 16 February, at the Chun Chou Tong Pavilion of Lou Lim Ioc Garden, featuring the traditional craft skills and showcasing the unique artworks of weaving, dyeing and embroidery from Jiangsu Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The opening ceremony will be held on Tuesday, 21 January, at 6:30pm and the exhibition is organized by the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Jiangsu Province and the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and co-organized by the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R. and the Centre for Ethnic and Folk Literature and Art Development of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China.

The opening ceremony of the 19^th Macao City Fringe Festival, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, was held on 10 January, at 2:30pm, at the Mount Fortress Garden. The ceremony was officiated by the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mok Ian Ian, and representatives of participating art groups of this edition of the Fringe Festival; and was attended by the Head of the Department of Performing Arts Development, Iu Wai Man; the Head of the Division of Performing Arts, U Weng Hong; and representatives of other art groups. An intriguing opening performance was presented, allowing the audience to experience the charm of contemporary dance at close range.

The Macau Heliport conducted a security drill early this morning to simulate the scenario of a bomb threat. The heliport immediately activated the emergency plan to handle the crisis. The suspected object was eventually defined not a genuine bomb.

The University of Macau (UM) today (9 January) held an inauguration ceremony for the Joint Laboratory of Aerospace Information, jointly established by UM and the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The lab aims to integrate the resources of both institutions to carry out innovative research in satellite payload for remote sensing and the applications of aerospace information.
