Steps in place to respond to Wuhan pneumonia cases

The Government has taken multiple steps to monitor developments and respond locally to reports of a cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan, Hubei Province. The steps were in order to minimise the risk of such cases having any impact on Macao.


19th Macao City Fringe Festival Kicks off this Friday

The 19th Macao City Fringe Festival, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will run from 10 to 19 January 2020, and the opening ceremony will be held at the Mount Fortress Garden at 2:30 p.m. this Friday (10 January). Following the ceremony and at the same venue will be the performance Body Traveller, under the subtheme ‘On Site’ of the ‘Crème de la Fringe’ special series, during which the audience will be electrified by the charm of contemporary dance in an outdoor setting. Tickets for some of the Festival’s programmes are limited and those interested should purchase them quickly.


UM to hold Open Day this Sunday; Macao and GBA residents welcome to attend

The University of Macau (UM) will hold the UM Open Day 2020 on Sunday 12 January from 11:00am to 5:00pm. Macao residents, students and their parents, tourists, and friends from the Greater Bay Area are welcome to attend the event to spend a fun and memorable Sunday at UM. There will be various activities on that day, including admission consultation, themed talks, performances, fun experiments, game booths, workshops, guided campus tours, and an international food festival. Participants will have the chance to experience UM’s unique model of education, advanced technologies, and vibrant campus life.


UM-developed Cantonese-Mandarin translation system now available online

The University of Macau (UM) has achieved yet another breakthrough in machine translation! A research team from UM recently developed a new system for translation between Cantonese and Mandarin. The system can efficiently and accurately translate text between the two dialects. Already available on the internet, the translation system is significant for the integration and development of the economic, cultural, and tourism industries in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.


Monetary and financial statistics – November 2019

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, broad money supply retreated in November with a stable share of patacas. Meanwhile, resident deposits dropped from a month ago whereas loans to residents posted an increase.


MPI’s Open Day Display of Teaching and Research Achievements Received Overwhelming Reactions

The Macao Polytechnic Institute successfully held its 2020 Open Day today (January 4), attracting over 2,000 prospective senior high school graduates, their parents, and the public. Government and casino sector meet on disease prevention measures

The Government held a meeting to brief representatives of the local casino gaming sector on guidelines and measures for the prevention in Macao of an outbreak of disease.


UM’s bachelor’s degree programmes now open for applications

The entrance examination for the University of Macau’s (UM) bachelor’s degree programmes for the 2020/2021 academic year is now open for applications. Those who are interested should complete online application at the UM Registry’s website. The deadline for applications is 17 January.
