“2019 Macao International Parade” Special traffic/street measures and instructions for the public

The “2019 Macao International Parade”, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be held on Sunday, 8 December, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Macao’s handover to China. In order to facilitate the public’s engagement and enjoyment, the organizer is announcing several arrangements including special traffic/street measures and admission guidelines for the public.


Macao-China: High-performing and fast-improving basic education system according to PISA 2018

On 3rd December 2019, the PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) 2018 results organized by OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) are released by all participating economies at the same time. Three results are especially commendable. First, amongst the 79 countries/economies participated, Macao’s 15-year-old students ranked third in all the three core literacies assessed, i.e. reading, mathematics and science. Since its first participation in 2003, this is the best results that Macao ever attained amongst past cycles of PISA assessment. Second, percentage of 15-year-olds reaching baseline level in all the three core literacies assessed ranked second in the world. Last, but not the least, OECD pointed out that Macao is the only basic education system amongst participating countries/economies exhibiting not only high academic quality but also fast educational progress over the years in the past decade.



New principal officials committed to serve Macao

Appointed principal officials and the Public Prosecutor-General-designate have pledged to devote their utmost effort to realise the fifth-term Government’s vision of “Unity and Efforts, Change and Innovation”.


MGTO presents “Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme” Awards 2019 to catering businesses and travel agencies

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) hosted the “Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme” (“QTSAS” or the “Scheme”) Awards Gala Dinner today (2 December) to commend award-winning catering businesses and travel agencies of the year, encouraging industry operators to provide quality tourism services. The Scheme was launched in 2014. To date, there are 281 catering businesses and 40 travel agencies awarded as “Star Merchant”. This year, MGTO extended QTSAS to cover the retail sector as well through collaboration with the “Certified Shop Scheme” of Consumer Council. Award-winning retailers will be unveiled tomorrow (3 December).

In celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR Macao and Zhuhai will co-present splendid joint fireworks show on 22 December (Macao Government Tourism Office  Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area Collaborative press release)

The Macao Special Administrative Region Government and the Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government will stage their first joint fireworks show together above the sea area in front of Macau Tower and Zhuhai Hengqin Financial Island at 9 p.m. on 22 December in joyful celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region. 160,000 fireworks shells will be skyrocketed from four barges and 16 special-effect launching platforms in the 30-minute show. Unmanned boats and drones will also be harnessed for the first time in the fireworks show. A splendid extravaganza of fireworks will dazzle the night sky, symbolizing unity and celebration, bliss and prosperity.
