IFTM successfully co-organised international conference on events
The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) co-organised the 5th International Conference on Events – Making Waves in Africa: Exploring New Frontiers in Festivals and Events held in Cape Town, South Africa. The conference is hosted by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in South Africa, co-organised jointly by Bournemouth University in the United Kingdom, Rosen College of Hospitality Management of the University of Central Florida in the United States of America and Macao Institute for Tourism Studies, China. Due to travel restrictions worldwide related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the conference was held in hybrid mode attended by over 130 South African and international delegates online or physically. Delegates are from 19 different countries and regions around the world: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States of America and Macao SAR.

Opening of “Multi-Prismatic Mutual Views: International Invitational Exhibition of Contemporary Art” Experimental creations based on the concept of multicultural coexistence
Jointly organized by the Macao Museum of Art, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the School of Intermedia Art of the China Academy of Art, the “Multi-Prismatic Mutual Views: International Invitational Exhibition of Contemporary Art” was inaugurated on 19 November, at 7pm, at the Macao Museum of Art. The opening ceremony was officiated by the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mok Ian Ian; the Head of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, Bai Bing; the Dean of the School of Sculpture and Public Art of the China Academy of Art, Ban Lingsheng; the Vice Dean of the School of Intermedia Art of the China Academy of Art, Min Han; the Acting Director of School of Arts of the Macao Polytechnic Institute, Lai Ming Hoi, Victor; the President of the Macau Artist Society, Lok Hei; the representatives of the artists of the exhibition, Liu Xuguang and Wong Ho Sang; and the curator of the exhibition, Guan Huaibin.

Tap Siac Craft Market in autumn is inaugurated promoting over 100 cultural and creative brands for two consecutive weeks
Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the Tap Siac Craft Market in autumn is held from today to 21 November and from 26 to 28 November at Tap Siac Square, featuring a wide range of activities and over 100 original products of cultural and creative brands. Residents and tourists are welcome to participate.

UM AMS-VLSI Lab Academic Committee holds fourth meeting and recognizes lab’s achievements
The Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI (AMS-VLSI Lab) at the University of Macau (UM) recently held its fourth meeting, which involved both in-person and virtual elements. During the meeting, committee members reviewed the current development of the lab. They recognised the lab’s development direction and provided suggestions for its future development as well as the commercialisation of its research results.

Gross domestic product for the 3rd Quarter of 2021
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased by 32.9% year-on-year in real terms in the third quarter of 2021. The economy of Macao has showed positive growth for two consecutive quarters. Exports of services surged by 181.3% year-on-year in the third quarter, driven by a rebound in number of visitor arrivals; exports of gaming services and other tourism services soared by 302.6% and 303.3% respectively. Exports of goods recorded a year-on-year growth of 51.4%. Meanwhile, domestic demand edged down by 0.7% year-on-year, as the increase in private consumption partially offset the decline in government final consumption expenditure and gross fixed capital formation. Imports of goods rose by 43.7% and imports of services went up by 16.0%.

Industrial structure of Macao 2020
Industrial structure reflects the relative importance of various industries in terms of their respective value-added contribution to the economy. Value added refers to the value created in the process of production by an economic activity (e.g. a sector or an industry), i.e. the value of goods and services produced by the economic activity, less the value of goods and services consumed in the production process. Sectors of industries are classified as primary (e.g. fishing, agriculture and animal husbandry), secondary (e.g. mining & quarrying, industrial production and construction) and tertiary (i.e. service sector, such as wholesale & retail trade, restaurants & similar activities, financial activities and gaming).
