The 21st Macao City Fringe Festival promotes community culture and “Art Exhibition for All” provides a creative exhibition space
The 21st Macao City Fringe Festival, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), will be held from 12 to 23 January, featuring 20 extraordinary programmes and 15 outreach activities. Adopting the concept of “All around the city, our stages, our patrons, our artists”, this year’s Fringe Festival will continue to bring art into the community and retain the participatory exhibition “Art Exhibition for All”, to offer the public a space to display creativity and talent. Interested parties are welcome to submit artworks or improvise on the spot.

Cultural Affairs Bureau’s online book shop undergoes regular website maintenance and extends Christmas promotion
Through a wide variety of books and periodicals on its platform, the Online Book Shop of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) facilitates local or overseas readers to select and purchase IC’s publications with ease, so as to promote reading. In order to provide more stable and convenient services, the Online Book Shop will undergo regular website maintenance from 30 December 2021 to 4 January 2022. During this period, the service will be suspended.

Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for November 2021
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 116 hotels & guesthouses offered accommodation services to the public in November 2021, a decrease of 3 year-on-year. Meanwhile, number of available guest rooms increased by 0.6% to 35,000. Data on hotels & guesthouses designated for medical observation and self-health monitoring were excluded in the compilation of the results. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms stood at 46.8%, representing a growth of 2.0 percentage points month-on-month and a rise of 2.8 percentage points year-on-year; both 3-star and 4-star hotels outperformed the sector’s average, at 53.0% and 52.9% respectively.

To stimulate local high school students’ interest in learning science, the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) organised two science talks on biomedical sciences. FHS professors shared knowledge about cell motility and transgenic technology with over 370 secondary school students to increase their interest in biomedical sciences.

Macao Orchestra and Suzhou Symphony Orchestra together present the concert “Classical meets Impressionism”
The Macao Orchestra, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will present the concert “Classical meets Impressionism—Macao Orchestra and Suzhou Symphony Orchestra” at the Grand Auditorium of the Macao Cultural Centre at 8pm on 15 January 2022. Under the Chinese conductor Xu Zhong, the Macao Orchestra will join hands with Dong Fang, a Chinese singer, to welcome the new year with wonderful classical and impressionist music.

The Nomenclature for the external trade of Macao/Harmonized system 7th revision to enter into force next year
The Nomenclature for the External Trade of Macao/Harmonized System, 7th Revision (NCEM/HS, Rev.7), approved under the Executive Order No. 57/2021, will come into effect on 1 January 2022. This revision is conducted in accordance with the recommendations from the World Customs Organization, and in conformity to the relevant regulations of imports and exports of chemicals under the Chemical Weapons Convention, the Rotterdam Convention, the Stockholm Convention and the International Narcotics Control Board. Moreover, classification of commodities is optimized in line with the operations of the Montreal Protocol and the Basel Convention to strictly regulate greenhouse gases and electronic waste that pollutes the environment. In terms of local context, the revised content aims to meet the needs of social development, such as the implementation of the “Law on Traditional Chinese Pharmacies and Registration of Traditional Chinese Medicines” by the Health Bureau, the regulation of weapons by the Public Security Police Force and the recommendations from the Environmental Protection Bureau for the prevention and reduction of environmental pollution, etc.
