On occasion of the 20^th anniversary of Macao’s Handover to China, “The International Symposium of the Maritime Silk Road” was presented by the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government and the National Cultural Heritage Administration (NCHA) of China, with the organisation of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, the Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage and the Guangzhou Office for the World Heritage Nomination of the Maritime Silk Road, in order to facilitate the nomination of the Maritime Silk Road for inscription on the World Heritage List and to deepen the foundation for academic research on its universal value and conservation, and to enable a more complete appreciation for Macao as an important location and platform along the historic Maritime Silk Road, also revealing Macao as a place where Chinese culture prevails and other cultures flourish in harmony. This important symposium was initiated on 6 November, at 9am, at the Macau Tower Convention & Entertainment Centre, where various experts from China and abroad gathered to foster academic research in regard to the intended nomination of the Maritime Silk Road to the World Heritage List, with the event also featuring the signing of a cooperation agreement.

The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (Union des Foires Internationales, UFI) released recently the 15^th edition of the Trade Fair Industry in Asia report, which summarises the development of the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) industry in Asia during 2018. A total of 27 B2B exhibitions that took place in Macao in 2018 were included in the UFI report’s statistics. According to the report, the revenue of Macao’s MICE industry is estimated to have reached nearly US$55.40 million in 2018, while net sales of exhibition space rose from 197,400 square metres in 2014 to 228,750 squares metres in 2018, representing an increase of approximately 16 percent.
