33rd Macao International Music Festival offers an artistic feast

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the 33rd Macao International Music Festival (MIMF) will continue to offer several musical performances this week. The Sejong Soloists and local young violinist Sophia Su will join hands to bring the concert “Serenade of Strings” to the stage; Peter Broderick, a music prodigy from the United States, will guide the audience to embark on a cross-disciplinary musical journey; the closing concert “The Yellow River Cantata”will be presented as a tribute to celebrate and commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of Macao’s Handover to China.


Consumer Council released 6th supermarket price survey report of the current month

The Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ of the second-half of October on 23 October for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 13 supermarkets in São Lázaro, São Lourenço and Sé Parishes. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app, or the Council’s WeChat account.


Funds of the Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System’s Individual Accounts to be transferred to Bank Accounts of Senior Citizens Aged 75 or Older Tomorrow

The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) announced that as of 21 October, nearly 65,000 applications for withdrawal of funds from the individual accounts of the non-mandatory central provident fund system were received. In the first phase, 24,955 applications submitted by senior citizens aged 75 or older, those who have received disability pension from the FSS for more than one year and those currently receiving special disability subsidy from the Social Welfare Bureau have been approved. The funds will be transferred to the related bank accounts tomorrow (23rd October) and the FSS has started to notify the applicants by mail or by mobile text messages (SMS). In addition, approved applicants for fund withdrawal who are between 65 and 74 will receive the money on 27th November.

Visitor arrivals for September 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 2,764,924 in September 2019, up by 8.0% year-on-year; same-day visitors (1,388,301) surged by 20.4% while overnight visitors (1,376,623) dropped by 2.3%. As the proportion of same-day visitors expanded by 5.2 percentage points year-on-year to 50.2%, the average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.1 day to 1.3 days, with that of overnight visitors (2.4 days) and same-day visitors (0.2 day) remaining unchanged.


Exhibition “The World as Will and Idea – Collective Exhibition of Emerging Artists from Mainland China” inaugurated reflecting the aesthetic features of contemporary arts in China

The exhibition “The World as Will and Idea – Collective Exhibition of Emerging Artists from Mainland China”, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), was inaugurated on 21 October, at 6:30pm, at the Macao Contemporary Art Centre - Navy Yard No.1. The opening ceremony was held in a lively atmosphere and was officiated by the Deputy Chief of the Division of Culture and Sports of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, Xin Jianbo; the Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Chan Kai Chon; the Executive Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Macao Daily News, Choi Choi Lin; the President of the Macau Artist Society, Lok Hei; and the curator Sun Feng.


UM professor receives Best Book Award from Urban History Association

Distinguished Professor Wang Di from the University of Macau’s (UM) Department of History recently received the Best Book in Non-North American History Award from the Urban History Association, for his book The Teahouse Under Socialism: The Decline and Renewal of Public Life in Chengdu, 1950-2000.


Macao Public Library launches the 20th Issue of Books and the City

The Macao Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau launches the 20th issue of Books and the City, now available to the public. In October, a new branch library of the Macao Public Library, Seac Pai Van Library, officially opened. This issue introduces readers to how the library serves as a space for social interaction in the neighbourhood, connecting with individuals and the society as a whole.


“Style‧Encounter Moment” Fashion Parade showcases local designers’ latest achievements

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) and co-organized by the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center (CPTTM), the “Style‧Encounter Moment” Fashion Parade of Subsidy Programme for Fashion Design on Sample Making was held on 19 October at the Macao Fashion Festival 2019 in the Florence ballroom of The Venetian Macao, showcasing the latest achievements of local fashion designers.


36% of Employers have not yet Paid their Contributions, and FSS Reminds that they can be Fined for their Late Payment

October is the contribution month for the third quarter of the Social Security System. As of 18th October, there are still about 7,700 employers who have not yet paid obligatory system contributions for their employees, accounting for about 36% of the total number of employers who are required to pay contributions. The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) reminds employers that they will have to pay a late payment interest and fines if they make their payment late. It is expected that the flow of people at the service point will increase nearing the end of the month. The FSS appeals to employers for making their payments as early as possible and employers who have already applied for the Electronic Filing Service should try to make full use of the electronic payment options available.
