Macao’s Float on National Day harvested “Splendid Award” for its design

A grand rally was held at Tian’anmen Square in Beijing on the National Day to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China. Themed as “Blooming Lotus”, Macao’s float marked its glamorous presence as part of the “Children of China” formation in the mass pageantry. With its strikingly unique design, the float was honored with the “Splendid Award” by the Division of Service Safeguarding and Command for Mass Pageantry of the Celebration Rally, revealing the audiences’ fondness for the float. The float marched on the day carrying Macao Tourism Mascot MAK MAK and personages of different fields from Macao, sharing the joy of the National Day celebration.


UM continues to offer three admission schemes to encourage outstanding students to pursue higher education in Macao

The University of Macau (UM) will continue to offer three admission schemes in the next academic year to encourage outstanding students to pursue higher education in Macao. They are the Principals’ Recommended Admission Scheme, the Chinese and Portuguese Bilingual Talent Nurturing Scheme, and the Outstanding Student-Athletes Admission Scheme. The university recently held an information seminar to help form-6 students, their parents, and secondary school teachers to learn more about the three admission schemes, the unique competitive advantages of UM’s undergraduate programmes, and the career prospects of UM graduates.


PLPEX provides exhibitors with a platform to “go global”

The “2019 Portuguese Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao)” (2019PLPEX) will be held between 17th and 19th October at The Venetian Macao. Many exhibitors and suppliers agree that PLPEX creates a comprehensive platform that allows the enterprises to co-operate, exchange ideas, and successfully “go global”, thus expanding their business.


Tourist price index (TPI) for the 3rd quarter of 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Tourist Price Index (TPI) for the third quarter of 2019 dropped by 0.65% year-on-year to 129.94. The decrease was mainly attributable to lower charges for hotel accommodation and falling prices of clothing; yet, rising charges for restaurant services and dearer prices of gold jewellery and local food products offset part of the decrease. Among the various sections of goods and services, price indices of Clothing & Footwear and Accommodation fell notably by 5.50% and 4.62% respectively year-on-year, whereas the indices of Entertainment & Cultural Activities and Miscellaneous Goods grew by 3.04% and 2.44% respectively.


Public consultation starts today on legal framework for urban renewal

Members of the public are being invited to share their views regarding a proposed legal framework for urban renewal put forward by the Government, via a 60-day public consultation period that starts today.


Macao Orchestra presents concert “Flourishing Arts” on Saturday

The Macao Orchestra (OM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents the concert “Flourishing Arts” on Saturday, 12 October, at 8pm, at the University Hall of the University of Macau. Under the baton of OM’s Assistant Conductor, Francis Kan, the Orchestra joins hands with Sou Sin U, Cesónia Da Rosa and Yin Kam Wai, award winners at the 37th Macao Young Musicians Competition, and Pyotr Akulov, winner of the first prize in the Piano Group of the 2nd Zhuhai Mozart International Competition for Young Musicians. Admission is free. Tickets will be distributed at the concert venue one hour prior to the performance. Distribution is on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to a maximum of two tickets per person.


Mortgage loans statistics – August 2019

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) decreased while those of commercial real estate loans (CRELs) increased in August 2019. With regard to the outstanding balances, RMLs increased whereas CRELs witnessed a decrease.


The final of China’s first inter-varsity competition in Chinese-Portuguese translation to be held at UM

The final of China’s first inter-varsity competition in Chinese-Portuguese translation will be held on 28 October at the University of Macau (UM). The competition aims to promote communication between universities in Macao and mainland China and to provide a platform for students majoring in Portuguese language to put their knowledge and translation skills into practice.


Cultural Affairs Bureau will relocate the technology equipment next Thursday and Friday  Operation of several websites and systems will be suspended

In order to ensure the proper operation of its information technology system, the Cultural Affairs Bureau will carry out relocation of the technology equipment currently stored in the telecommunications data centre from 3pm on 17 October (Thursday) to 10am on 18 October (Friday). During this period, the operation of several websites will be suspended, including the Cultural Affairs Bureau website and its sub-websites, the websites of the Cultural Heritage of Macao, the Macao World Heritage, the Macao Conservatory, the Archives of Macao, the Macao Museum of Art, the Macao Museum, the Macao Culture Centre, the IC Press Page, the “Art Macao”, the Macao Cultural and Creative Industries, the C2 Magazine and the Jao Tsung-I Academy, among others. In addition, IC’s Activity Registration System, the Community Funding Application System, the “WH Macau” mobile application, the “Art Macao” mobile application, the Inquiry System of Progress of Application for Filming and the “Macao eBooks” mobile application will also be unavailable during the above mentioned period. The normal operation of the websites and service will resume once the relocation of the technology equipment is completed.


Consumer Council released 3rd supermarket price survey report of the current month

The Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ of the first-half of October on 10 October for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 10 supermarkets in Santo António Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app, or the Council’s WeChat account.
