“Tap Siac Craft Market” held in April Call for proposals of stall operators and creative handicraft workshops from today

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the “Tap Siac Craft Market” will be held from 26 to 28 April and from 3 to 5 May 2019 at Tap Siac Square. To encourage the public’s participation, IC is now calling for proposals of stall operators and handicraft workshops. Applicants from Macao, Malaysia and Singapore are welcome to submit proposals by Monday, 4 March, at 5:30pm. Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – January 2019

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP164.3 billion (USD20.32 billion) at the end of January 2019. The reserves increased by 0.4% from the revised value of MOP163.6 billion (USD20.28 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-January 2019 represented 10 times the currency in circulation or 82.7% of pataca M2 at end-December 2018.


Consumer Council released latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ Various functions available on website and app

Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 14 February 2019 for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets in Toi San, Ilha Verde and Fai Chi Kei areas in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo) or the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app.

The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Chief Executive Election will act in strict compliance with the Basic Law and the Chief Executive Election Law in order to ensure that the election for the next Chief Executive is conducted openly and fairly, said Commission President Ms Song Man Lei.


Culinary team won second place in International Snow Sculpture Contest in Japan and raised Macao’s profile

Macau Culinary Association sent a team to participate in the 46th International Snow Sculpture Contest in Hokkaido, Japan, and won second place with their exquisite snow sculpture named "Sharing Prosperity". The snow sculpture team has participated in the competition for four consecutive years (2016 - 2019) and brought home a championship and three second prizes. Their works demonstrated Macao's unique culture and won the fondness of spectators from around the world, raising Macao’s destination profile.

Ge Wei and Billy So to assume office as UM’s vice rectors

Through global recruitment and a rigorous selection process, the University of Macau (UM) has decided to appoint Prof Ge Wei, an expert in reproductive biology, as its vice rector (research), and the historian Prof Billy So as its vice rector (student affairs), for a five-year term and a three-year term, respectively. Both of them will assume office on 18 February.
