GGCT reminds that Level 2 Travel Alert to Sri Lanka remains in force
In view of the announcement on June 22nd of the one-month extension of the national state of emergency in Sri Lanka, the GGCT reminds Macao residents that the Level 2 Travel Alert issued to Sri Lanka remains in force. Macao residents who intend to travel to or are already in Sri Lanka should reconsider for the moment the travel. It is suggested to avoid non-essential travel to that destination.

The Travel Alert System does not have a prohibitive nature and it is up to each individual to decide to travel or adjust their travel plan according to the information provided. The GGCT advises Macao residents before traveling to purchase comprehensive travel insurance, with coverage option for the Macao SAR Travel Alert System, international emergency medical evacuation coverage, and to also verify with their insurers in case of any doubts regarding the terms and conditions of their insurance coverage.

UM’s FST celebrates 30th anniversary
The University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) recently held an event to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Over the past three decades, the FST has nurtured many professionals for the science and technology sector in Macao. UM is currently ranked among the top 125 and 200 internationally, in engineering and computer sciences, respectively. The university is also ranked No 8 in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and among the top 1 per cent in Essential Sciences Indicators (ESI) rankings in both disciplines.

FBA organises forum to explore university-industry collaboration in Greater Bay Area
The Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) of the University of Macau (UM) recently organised a forum titled ‘Challenges and Opportunities ― Shaping the Future of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) through Academic and Industry Collaboration’ in Guangzhou, one of the four core cities in the GBA. The forum aimed to promote collaborations between Guangzhou and Macao in the areas of featured financial services, tourism, and sustainable development. The platform also hoped to facilitate collaborations between industry and universities, promote the use of research results and knowledge in business, and nurture business professionals with innovative ideas and leadership skills.

Visitor arrivals for May 2019
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 3,396,835 in May 2019, an increase of 25.6% year-on-year. Overnight visitors (1,598,097) grew by 10.3% while same-day visitors (1,798,738) surged by 43.3%. As the proportion of same-day visitors expanded by 6.5 percentage points year-on-year to 53.0%, the average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.1 day to 1.2 days. Overnight visitors stayed an average of 2.3 days, up by 0.1 day; meanwhile, the average length of stay of same-day visitors held stable at 0.2 day.
