Consumer price index (CPI) for May 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI (115.46) for May 2019 increased by 2.69% year-on-year, down further by 0.08 percentage points from the growth in April (+2.77%). The increment in May was attributable to dearer charges for eating out, higher rentals for dwellings, as well as rising prices of motor cars, gasoline and fruits.


IFT hosts "Splendid Quintessence—Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition" – one of the events of "Art Macao"

"Splendid Quintessence—Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition", one of the events organized under the programme "Art Macao", will be held at the Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT), from 20 June to 21 July. This exhibition presents works of six calligraphers and painters from mainland China and Macao. The contents of the works are rich and developed in different styles and social contexts. The twelve art pieces to be exhibited will definitely bring a unique artistic experience to the audience.


MGTO Annual Marketing Meeting 2019 forges marketing schemes for next year

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) convened the Annual Marketing Meeting 2019 in Macao from 18th to 20th June. 46 MGTO market representatives, consultants and representatives of promotional entities from worldwide reported on their initiatives and discussed marketing schemes for next year, besides an inspection visit to “Art Macao”, the mega international arts and cultural event unveiled this month.


UM holds UAUC joint meeting; Chui Sai On: UM gives new impetus to Macao’s economic diversification and sustainable development

The University of Macau (UM) yesterday (19June) held the Joint Meeting of the University Assembly (UA) and University Council (UC) for the 2018/2019 academic year in its Ho Yin Conference Hall. Chui Sai On, chief executive of the Macao SAR, chancellor of UM, and chair of the UA, presided over the meeting. Chui said that UM has taken various measures to support China’s ‘Go Global’ and ‘Bring In’ growth strategy, which has also given a fresh impetus to Macao’s economic diversification and sustainable development.


Consumer Council released 5th supermarket price survey report of the current month

The Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ of the second-half of June on 19 June for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 14 supermarkets in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app, or the Council’s WeChat account.


UM inaugurates Cultural Building to promote cultural exchange

The University of Macau (UM) today (19 June) held an inauguration ceremony for the Cultural Building. UM Rector Yonghua Song said at the ceremony that in a new era where the Chinese government has initiated the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Cultural Building at UM is tasked with the mission to promote Chinese culture and cultural exchange and to support Macao’s effort to develop into a centre for cultural exchange between China and foreign countries in the Greater Bay Area and beyond.




Unlawful seizure of aircraft exercise was deemed a success

The Exercise on the Unlawful Seizure of Aircraft was conducted in Macau International Airport early this morning (19 June 2019) simulating the scenario of a Macao registered aircraft being unlawfully seized by a foreign political organization. The hijackers demanded the Macao SAR Government to release the imprisoned organization members in Macao and pay the ransom. Macau International Airport immediately activated the airport emergency plan to resolve the crisis. All passengers and crew members were eventually rescued. The exercise was deemed a success.
