UM holds Responsible Gambling Symposium 2018

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the promotion of ‘responsible gambling’. The University of Macau (UM) Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming (ISCG) today (18 December) held the Responsible Gambling Symposium 2018. The event attracted experts and scholars from the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Beijing, Hong Kong, and Macao. During the event, the participants reviewed current policies and put forward new strategies for preventing gambling disorder in Macao and other parts of Asia.


Consumer Council released latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ in Taipa and Coloane area

Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 18 December for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 10 supermarkets in Taipa and Coloane area.


Submission of works for the Photography Contest of the “Macao International Parade” ends on 30 December

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the 2018 Macao International Parade in celebration of the 19th anniversary of Macao’s Handover to China was successfully held. In order to encourage a more active participation of the public in local cultural events and to provide an exchange platform for photography aficionados, a photography contest for the “2018 Macao International Parade” has been organised by IC and co-organised by the Photographic Society of Macau, inviting residents to share memorable moments captured throughout the Parade.

Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR Government, Leong Vai Tac, met with Vice Minister for Health of Mozambique, João Leopoldo da Costa, in an official visit to Macao on 6 December. At the meeting, both parties engaged in a profound discussion and exchange of ideas on the cooperation in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) of Macao and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao (hereinafter as “Industrial Park”) among other issues with Mozambique.


IFT students innovate business model for local SME

IFT students from the Programme of Tourism Retail and Marketing Management engaged in a consultancy project to serve a local retail business called Tin Vek, which focuses on the sales of video and audio entertainment products such as movies, television series, music, and the likes. This industry has been facing challenges due to changes in consumer attitude and behaviour towards audio-visual products. For example, consumers can purchase music and videos from online stores via their smartphones, subscribe to streaming services to access to unlimited content from various online platforms, or even download pirated materials for free. As a result, the traditional business model has to be changed in order to adapt to the needs of the current market.


CE: President Xi confident in Macao achieving further successes

President Xi Jinping today expressed his confidence in Macao’s ability to seize fresh opportunities arising from the country’s overall development, in order to achieve further success based on the city’s strong social and economic position.
