MGTO Director in Bhutan to attend UNWTO regional meetings and talk at conference on Sustainable Development through Tourism
Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, was one of the guest speakers joining the “World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Regional Conference on Sustainable Development through Tourism,” held today (June 3), in Thimphu, Bhutan. The conference was organized ahead of the 31st Joint Meeting of the UNWTO Commission for East Asia and the Pacific and the UNWTO Commission for South Asia, and related events, which attracted the participation of top tourism officials and representatives from 25 countries and territories from across the region.

Consumer Council released 1st supermarket price survey report of the current month
The Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ of the first-half of June on 3 June for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 14 supermarkets in Nossa Senhora de Fátima Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app, or the Council’s WeChat account.

Gross domestic product for the 1st Quarter of 2019
Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that the economy of Macao in the first quarter of 2019 contracted by 3.2% year-on-year in real terms, ending the uptrend that had lasted for ten consecutive quarters. Total demand weakened due to feeble growth, leading to increased downward pressure on the economy. External demand slowed visibly; total exports of services dropped by 0.3% year-on-year, with exports of gaming services and other tourism services falling by 0.6% and 0.3% respectively; moreover, exports of goods saw a decrease of 1.8%. Domestic demand remained sluggish, down by 9.4% year-on-year owing to a significant decline in investment in fixed assets; private consumption expenditure and government final consumption expenditure rose by 2.1% and 4.1% respectively, offsetting part of the decrease resulted from the economic downturn. Imports of goods grew by 2.0% while imports of services went down by 20.9%. The implicit deflator of GDP, which measures the overall changes in prices, increased by 3.2% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2019.
