CCE’s New courses now open for applications

In line with the Macao SAR government's policy to encourage lifelong learning, the University of Macau (UM) Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) offers courses to help Macao residents enhance their personal qualities and skills, thereby promoting economic and industrial diversification in Macao and fostering a culture of lifelong learning in society. Three new courses offered by the centre, namely Certificate in Artificial Intelligence Course, Certificate in Financial Technology, and Certificate in Android Apps Production, are now open for applications.


The Director of the Financial Intelligence Office presided over the virtual regional meetings of international anti-money laundering organization as the “Asia/Pacific Joint Group” Co-chair

Since late April 2020, the Director of the Financial Intelligence Office (GIF) has been formally appointed as the Co-chair of the Asia/Pacific Joint Group (APJG), a regional sub-group of the International Cooperation Review Group (ICRG) which is responsible for establishing sanction and monitoring lists under the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), an international anti-money laundering organization.


Doubling in number of Macao-registered vehicles to be allowed into Hengqin

The aggregate number Macao-registered motor vehicles allowed into Hengqin, Zhuhai, will be increased to 10,000 under the quota system of a cross-boundary scheme.


Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for January 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 120 hotels & guesthouses were open for business in January 2021, a decrease of 2 year-on-year; number of available guest rooms went down by 6.1% to 36,000. Data on hotels & guesthouses designated for medical observation were excluded in the compilation of the results. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms stood at 40.3%, representing a month-to-month fall of 12.8 percentage points and a year-on-year drop of 40.7 percentage points.


Premiere of the documentary “Interpretation of Images” by the Cultural Affairs Bureau on Macao’s screening industry

In order to raise the public awareness of the film and related industries in Macao and to enhance public understanding of the development of the city’s screening industry over the past century, the Cultural Affairs Bureau has produced a documentary entitled “Interpretation of Images”, which focuses on the history of the cinemas and screening industry in Macao. Meanwhile, the Cultural Affairs Bureau has organized public screenings. The documentary “Interpretation of Images” will be screened at the Exhibition Hall on the second floor of Cinematheque·Passion from 2 March onwards, which will be running concurrently with an exhibition at No. 9 and No. 11 Travessa da Paixão, introducing the history and stories of Macao’s century-old cinema development. The exhibition is open to the general public with free admission.




UM participates in smart maintenance of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

The University of Macau (UM) is participating in two projects under the National Key Research and Development Programme and the Guangdong Provincial Key Research and Development Programme, in order to realise smart maintenance, repair, and operation of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao (HZM) Bridge. The national-level project concerns the application of smart technologies in the HZM Bridge’s operation and maintenance, while the provincial-level project investigates smart safety monitoring and emergency control for sea-crossing projects. Officially launched in 2020, these two projects are jointly conducted by UM and its partners in mainland China and Hong Kong.


MICE statistics for the 4th quarter of 2020

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 147 MICE events were held in the fourth quarter of 2020, and number of participants & attendees was 515,000. The figures represented respective increases of 84 and 73.3% quarter-to-quarter; however, decreases of 314 and 30.6% were recorded year-on-year.
