UM graduates 1,500 students Chui: UM nurtures high-calibre graduates to support the economic diversification and sustainable development of Macao

The University of Macau (UM) held the Congregation 2019 today (26 May). Macao SAR Chief Executive and UM Chancellor Chui Sai On praised the university for nurturing innovative graduates with global vision and producing fruitful research results to support the economic diversification and sustainable development of Macao through an outstanding faculty team.


UM gives teaching award to excellent faculty member

At the Congregation 2019 held today (25 May), the University of Macau (UM) presented the Teaching Excellence Award, which recognises faculty members with outstanding performance in teaching. The recipient in the 2018/2019 academic year is Assistant Professor Dr Wang Ruibing from the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences.



DSI Director Ao Ieong U visited service center affiliated to Federação das Associações dos Operários de Macau

In order to strengthen communications and exchange between public departments and the youth in Macao, Ao Ieong U, the Director of the Identification Services Bureau (DSI), led her team to visit a service center, Stage, affiliated to Federação das Associações dos Operários de Macau today (24 May). They visited the center’s facilities to have better understanding of the work of the association and exchanged views with the association members, which helpedencourage effective interaction for collecting the youth’s opinions about DSI’s work and its future development.


MGTO presents first culinary training session with local trade – Celebrity Chef Workshop

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) partners with the trade once again to organize the first culinary training session for professional chefs in Macao. Co-organizing the Celebrity Chef Workshop with Galaxy Entertainment Group today (24 May), the Office encourages local chefs to keep enhancing their culinary expertise and carry on Macao’s gastronomic culture with creativity. The workshop also aims to promote exchange among culinary professionals and join each other in steering the city forward as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. The organizers will edit the video of the workshop into a lecture version for tourism and catering industry professionals and people interested in pursuing career as a chef to view and learn more about the cooking skills involved.


UM presents academic awards to outstanding graduates

The University of Macau (UM) today (24 May) presented academic prizes to 66 outstanding graduates at the Congregation 2019. In this academic year, the university gave out over MOP 4 million in more than 60 kinds of academic prizes and scholarships to over 400 students.


Children’s Theatre Discovering the Forbidden City at CCM

The Macao Cultural Centre, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents The Little Kid in the Forbidden City, a children’s theatre to be staged in two shows on June 5 and 6 (Wednesday and Thursday) at CCM’s Grand Auditorium.




Results of retail sales survey for 1st quarter of 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that value of retail sales for the first quarter of 2019 decreased by 1.9% year-on-year to MOP20.38 billion; yet, an increase of 2.6% was observed as compared with the revised figure (MOP19.87 billion) in the fourth quarter of 2018. In the first quarter, Watches, Clocks & Jewellery accounted for 20.9% of the total retail sales, followed by Goods in Department Stores (17.6%), Leather Goods (13.6%) and Adults' Clothing (12.4%).
