MGTO took an official statement against an allegedly illegal tour guide followed by sanction procedures to unfold

Inspectors of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) took action tocombat operation of unlicensed tour guides at Border Gateon 9 May andsuccessfullytook an official statement against an individual whowas working as a tour guide withouta local tour guide license.The involved individual was leading a tour group from Guilin, Guangxi Province to visit Macao via the port of entry at Border Gate. The group comprised46 members andhad taken a shuttle busoperatedby an entertainment establishment. After tracking the group for some time, MGTO inspectors successfully obtained evidence andverbal reports to take an official statement against the irregularity forthe subsequent sanction procedures to ensue.The man who allegedly worked illegally as a tour guide came from Mainland China.MGTO will later report the case to the tourism authorities of the respective municipality.


Electoral Affairs Commission exchanges views with General Audit Committee for the Chief Executive Election Committee polling process

The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Chief Executive Election today met with the General Audit Committee for the Chief Executive Election Committee polling process. They exchanged views on the design of the ballot paper to be used in the June polling to decide most of the seats on the Chief Executive Election Committee and the criteria for the validity of ballots cast.


MAM’s exhibition “Heidi Lau: Apparition” was inaugurated in Venice

International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia is the oldest cultural event in the world and is well-known for the scale and range it encompasses and has provided a unique platform for cultural artists and art groups from around the world. The exhibition “Heidi Lau: Apparition”, organised by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, was inaugurated on 9 May at 5:45pm (local time) at the Macao-China venue of the 58th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia in Venice. It is the seventh time that the Macao Museum of Art has participated in La Biennale di Venezia under the name of “Macao-China” since 2007. This exhibition entitled “Apparition”, will showcase 10 pieces/sets of ceramic installations by young artist Heidi Lau, aiming to “apparate” the “invisible” Macao in response to the title of this year’s La Biennale, “May You Live in Interesting Times”.


UM student’s PhD thesis offers insights for Portuguese teaching and learning

Yan Qiaorong, a PhD student in the Department of Portuguese, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Macau (UM), recently completed the oral defense for her thesis titled ‘Repair as a Cooperative Strategy in Classroom Interaction’. The thesis discusses the stereotype of Chinese students as being passive learners in a Portuguese learning environment and analyses teacher-student interactions in class at universities, with the aim of enhancing learning outcomes. The thesis offers new insights for Portuguese teaching and learning.


Amendment of Postal Tariff and Regulations

With the rapid development of economy of Macao SAR, the pace of the society has also been accelerated, the recent amendment of tariff by CTT Macao was in 2014. To cater the market demands, CTT Macao will adjust some of the postal tariff starting from 30th May, 2019. The amendments include:


Consumer Council launched SMS service for consumers checking case status

To facilitate the development of electronic governance of the SAR Government, the Consumer Council launched a new SMS reminder service for consumers in April, the SMS reminds the complainant to check notifications sent out by the Council to enhance efficiency of the case handling process and quality of service provided to consumers.



Government responds to European Union report on Macao

The Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People’s Republic of China expresses strong opposition to the release of the 2018 annual report on the Macao SAR, issued by the European Union.
