Demographic statistics for the 1st quarter of 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total population was 670,900 as at end-March 2019, an increase of 3,500 quarter-to-quarter; female population (356,800) accounted for 53.2% of the total.


Mortgage loans statistics – March 2019

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) and commercial real estate loans (CRELs) both increased in March 2019. With regard to the outstanding balance, both RMLs and CRELs witnessed monthly increases.


Macao Orchestra commissions audience survey to the Chinese University of Hong Kong starting in May

In order to know more about Macao residents’ perception of music performances and cultural and artistic activities, their preferences and spending habits, the Macao Orchestra (OM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, specially commissioned an audience survey to the Chinese University of Hong Kong with the duration of three months, which will be launched in May through various channels, including OM’s official website, WeChat account, email and Facebook. All are welcome to participate.


IMF Concludes 2019 Article IV Consultation with Macao SAR

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) concluded the 2019 Article IV Consultation with Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR) and published its Staff Report today (9 May, 2019, US time; 10 May, 2019, Macao time). This report reinforces the IMF Staff Mission’s assessment of Macao SAR’s macroeconomic and financial positions in the Staff Concluding Statement released by the IMF on 25 February, 2019.

A harrowing cult story at CCM Avant-garde Polish theatre stages 4.48 Psychosis

The Macao Cultural Centre, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents 4.48 Psychosis, a tale of darkness and despair adapted to a contemporary theatrical production. The cutting edge play is staged by the Polish avant-garde company TR Warszawa in two shows at CCM’s Small Auditorium, on June 21 and 22 (Friday and Saturday).



Revised Estimates of Economic Losses Caused by Typhoon Mangkhut to Macao

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) conducted an estimation of the economic losses caused by Typhoon Mangkhut after it struck Macao on 16 September 2018. The preliminary estimates of last year indicated that the economic losses caused by Mangkhut to Macao amounted to MOP 1.55 billion, comprising MOP 0.52 billion of direct losses and MOP 1.03 billion of indirect losses.



CE reviews progress in relation to disaster prevention and mitigation work

The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, has asked a Government team tasked with planning enhancements to Macao’s management of disaster prevention and mitigation work, to maintain its efforts and where possible do more.
