Open Call for the exhibition “Artworks of Macao Artists 2019”
With 2019 marking the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland and also the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, MAM and the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC) especially co-organised the exhibition “Artworks of Macao Artists 2019”, aiming to review the creative achievements of Macao’s contemporary visual art, promote exchanges between art communities in Macao and Mainland China, and strengthen inheritance of tradition and innovation in the development of Macao’s visual art. MAM intends to select artworks by open submission and all interested artists may submit their works from 17 to 20 May 2019.

CE to visit Portugal from 11 to 19 May
At the invitation of the Portuguese Republic, the Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, will lead a Government delegation to visit the capital of Portugal, Lisbon, and the city of Porto, during the period of 11 to 19 May.

Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – March 2019
The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP163.3 billion (USD20.19 billion) at the end of March 2019. The reserves decreased by 2.1% from the revised value of MOP166.8 billion (USD20.63 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-March 2019 represented 10 times the currency in circulation or 79.8% of pataca M2 at end-February 2019.

Tourist price index (TPI) for the 1st quarter of 2019
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Tourist Price Index (TPI) for the first quarter of 2019 went up by 0.72% year-on-year to 137.92. The increase was attributable to dearer prices of local food products and higher charges for hotel accommodation and restaurant services; yet, falling prices of clothing and handbags tapered off part of the increase. Among the various sections of goods and services, price index of Entertainment & Cultural Activities grew by 3.93% year-on-year due to rising prices of the Lunar New Year-related leisure goods (e.g. fireworks and firecrackers). Price indices of Accommodation and Food, Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco rose by 3.73% and 3.28% respectively. Meanwhile, price indices of Clothing & Footwear (-6.94%) and Miscellaneous Goods (-2.50%) saw decreases.

UM holds Open Day to showcase cultural diversity on campus; Parents from Greater Bay Area praise UM’s software and hardware facilities
The University of Macau (UM) today (14April) held the annual Open Day to showcase its latest achievements in teaching and research. The event attracted many people who wanted to experience the international learning environment, the cultural diversity, and student life at UM. One parent from the Greater Bay Area said that he hopes his children can study at a beautiful first-rate university that offers academic programmes that suit his children’s interests. He said UM is an international university, with excellent software and hardware facilities for teaching and learning, which fills him with confidence that studying at UM will offer his son good career prospects.
