UM’s online Portuguese language summer course now open for applications

Over the years, the University of Macau (UM) has organised courses in various formats to nurture Chinese-Portuguese bilingual professionals. The university’s Portuguese Language Summer Course is an annual event that has attracted students from around the world since its launch 33 years ago. The 34th edition of the course will be held online between 20 July and 31 July. It is now open for applications. Those aged 16 or above from China and abroad, especially students, teachers, translators, and those who are interested in Portuguese language, are welcome to apply.


IPIM Successfully Held Three Webinars SMEs Are Looking Forward to More Similar Events

Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) in co-operation with Macao Young Entrepreneur Incubation Centre, Macao Cross-Border E-Commerce Industry Association, the Industry and Commerce Association of Macao and Macau Youth Entrepreneur Association, successfully held three webinars themed “SME Special Webinars”. The event was well-received and attracted over 430 participants from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and from the industry. Some participants expressed the hope that more similar webinars regarding SMEs would be held in the future to share industry updates and business knowledge.



Transport and communications statistics for May 2020

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 239,718 as at end-May 2020, up slightly by 0.7% year-on-year. Light automobiles (109,420) and heavy motorcycles (99,958) rose by 1.4% and 2.2% respectively; however, light motorcycles (22,985) dropped by 7.2%. New registration of motor vehicles in May increased by 23.7% year-on-year to 1,097, with that of heavy motorcycles (670) surging by 64.2% while light automobiles (387) falling by 7.0%. In the first five months of 2020, new registration of motor vehicles decreased by 12.4% year-on-year to 4,280. Number of traffic accidents in May totalled 743, with 260 injuries. In the first five months, there were 3,445 traffic accidents, involving 1,202 victims and 3 of them were killed.


Government Information Bureau to devote further effort to support local media’s work and to serve the public

The Government Information Bureau (GCS) will devote further effort to facilitate communication between the Government and the press, and between the Government and the public, said the new GCS Director, Ms Chan Lou.


CE exchanges views with National Health Commission lead advisor on commercialisation of traditional Chinese medicine

The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, said Macao would press ahead with the commercialisation of knowledge and products linked to the local traditional Chinese medicine sector, and with the promotion of synergies between traditional Chinese medicine and the healthcare industry.



20th Macao City Fringe Festival Call for proposals of programmes and performance venues

The 20th Macao City Fringe Festival, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), will be held in January next year, aiming to spread the creative and adventurous spirit and encourage artists to create works that show the city’s characteristics and cultural connotations from multiple perspectives. The call for proposals of programmes and performance venues is now open; the deadline for applications is 5pm on 31 July 2020.


Department head and division head of Identification Services Bureau swore in

The Identification Services Bureau (DSI) held the inauguration ceremony for a department head and a division head on 1 July 2020. Under the witness of heads of department and division, Ms. Van Kit Lam and Mr. Wong Chi Lon took an oath administered by Director Ms. Wong Pou Ieng to respectively assume the position of Head of Department of General Affairs and Head of Division of Identity Card.


July is a Contribution Month, FSS Reminds Residents to Pay Contributions on Time

July is a contribution month of the Social Security Fund. In this month, employers are required to pay obligatory system contributions for their local long-term employees for the second quarter of 2020. If a non-resident worker is hired, the employer is required to pay the employment fee as well. In addition, arbitrary system beneficiaries are also required to pay contributions in July. To reduce queuing time, the FSS advises employers to make their payments as early as possible and use the appointment service. Employers and arbitrary system beneficiaries already applied for the use of electronic filing service should try to make their payments by electronic means.
