Consumer Council released latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ Various functions available on website and app

Consumer Council conducted its first ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 6 March for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets near Areia Preta, Mong Há and Avenida de Venceslau de Morais in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo) or the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app.


“Experience Macao – Portugal” mega tourism promotion kicks off next week

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) will organize an “Experience Macao – Portugal” mega promotion next week during Lisbon Travel Market 2019, in which Macao will be in the spotlight as this year’s International Guest Destination. Capitalizing on BTL exposure, a string of activities will be conducted in Lisbon and Porto to give an update about Macao as a tourism destination leveraging on this special year that the city is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR).


Applications for the 37th Macao Young Musicians Competition end soon

The “37th Macao Young Musicians Competition”, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be held between 13 July and 4 August in Macao. Applications are open from 4 to 10 March. The deadline for applications is 10 March, at 7pm. All interested parties may complete the online registration and submit the documents and registration fee in the designated period of time.


Demographic statistics for the 4th quarter of 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total population at end-2018 increased by 14,300 year-on-year to 667,400, with the female population accounting for 53.1% of the total. The proportion of elderly population (aged 65 and over) grew by 0.6 percentage points year-on-year to 11.1%, whereas that of adult population (aged 15-64) dropped by 1.0 percentage point to 75.7%. The population of Macao continued to age, with the ageing ratio rising by 1.1 percentage points year-on-year to 84.1%, representing the 22nd consecutive year of increase.


Five animation short films subsidised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau to be screened in various regions

This year, five excellent animation short films that have been subsidised by “Subsidy Programme for the Production of Original Animation Short Films” of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) will participate in various promotional activities in Mainland China, Macao, Hong Kong, Portugal and Greece. Some works will also be broadcasted on local television programme and online video sharing platforms, actively showcasing the cultural potency of Macao’s animation.



UM honorary doctor Anthony Lau gives talk on e-commerce logistics

Anthony Lau Siu Wing, an honorary doctor of the University of Macau (UM), today (5 March) gave a talk titled ‘E-Commerce Logistics’ at UM. The event attracted many UM faculty members and students, business people, as well as experts and scholars.


UM celebrates 30th anniversary of FED, with 3,000 graduates produced by the faculty

Over the past three decades, the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Education (FED) has produced many education professionals for Macao. In the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings, UM is ranked in the 201-250 bracket in Education, showing international recognition of the quality of its education. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the FED. The faculty is organising a series of activities to celebrate the milestone, including a dinner held recently, which was attended by principals and teachers from primary and secondary schools in Macao.


IFT holds Career Day 56 organisations offer job opportunities for IFT graduating students

The Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) held 2019 Career Day on 5 March at IFT Taipa Campus. 56 organisations from various sectors joined and exhibited at the event, providing employment opportunities and information, as well as the latest development of the sectors for IFT graduating students. The Career Day aimed to provide a direct communication platform between students and employers, allowing students to know more about the current job market and maximising their chance of successful job application.
