Culinary team won second place in International Snow Sculpture Contest in Japan and raised Macao’s profile

Macau Culinary Association sent a team to participate in the 46th International Snow Sculpture Contest in Hokkaido, Japan, and won second place with their exquisite snow sculpture named "Sharing Prosperity". The snow sculpture team has participated in the competition for four consecutive years (2016 - 2019) and brought home a championship and three second prizes. Their works demonstrated Macao's unique culture and won the fondness of spectators from around the world, raising Macao’s destination profile.

Ge Wei and Billy So to assume office as UM’s vice rectors

Through global recruitment and a rigorous selection process, the University of Macau (UM) has decided to appoint Prof Ge Wei, an expert in reproductive biology, as its vice rector (research), and the historian Prof Billy So as its vice rector (student affairs), for a five-year term and a three-year term, respectively. Both of them will assume office on 18 February.

Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 13 February for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets near Iao Hon Market and the Border Gate area (Portas do Cerco ) in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo) or the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app.


Small and medium-sized enterprise credit statistics – Second half of 2018

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, newly approved small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) credit rebounded in the second half of 2018 when compared to the first half of 2018. Meanwhile, the outstanding balance of SME loans registered growth and the share of SME loans to major industries remained stable.


UM professor’s new book receives Academic Excellence Award and Best Book Award

A book written by Distinguished Professor Wang Di from the University of Macau (UM) Department of History, namely Violence and Order on the Chengdu Plain: The Story of a Secret Brotherhood in Rural China, 1939-1949, recently received the Academic Excellence Award from the Chinese Historians in the United States and the Best Book Award from the Association for the Studies of Chinese Secret Societies. The book also entered various best book rankings in 2018.


UM to hold Doctor honoris causa Lecture Joseph Sung to talk about healthcare and education in an era of artificial intelligence

Joseph Sung Jao-yiu, an honorary doctor of the University of Macau (UM) and a world-renowned scientist, on Friday 22 February will give a talk titled ‘Healthcare and Education in the Era of Artificial Intelligence’ at UM. All are welcome.


Visit of Ms. Catrin Diamantino, Bell UK CEO to MPI to Strengthen International Cooperation

In order to strengthen international cooperation in English education, Ms. Catrin Diamantino, CEO of Bell Educational Services Ltd. UK, recently visited MPI along with Mr. Adam Ennis, the China Country Manager of Bell UK. They were warmly welcomed by President Im Sio Kei and the management of MPI-Bell. The MPI-Bell Centre of English is a cooperation of 15 years between MPI and Bell UK, which has provided high quality English college courses to MPI students and teachers, as well as professional training to the wider communities in Macao and Mainland China. More than 50,000 people have benefited from these widely acclaimed programs.


Mortgage loans statistics – December 2018

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) and commercial real estate loans (CRELs) both rose in December 2018. With regard to the outstanding balance, both RMLs and CRELs witnessed monthly increases.
