Consumer Council hotline available during Chinese New Year Holidays

As consumption by citizens and the number of inbound tourists are expected to increase during Lunar New Year, the Consumer Council held a meeting before the festival with Economic Services Bureau (DSE), Macao Government Tourist Office (DST), Transport Bureau (DSAT), Judiciary Police (PJ), Public Security Police Force (PSP), Macao Custom Service, Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM), Health Bureau (SS) and Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) to discuss on the protection of consumer rights for local citizens as well as inbound tourists.


Wages of construction workers and prices of construction materials for the 4th quarter of 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average daily wage of construction workers decreased continuously, down by 1.4% quarter-to-quarter to MOP752 in the fourth quarter of 2018. The average daily wage of non-resident construction workers (MOP622) dropped by 1.9%, while that of local construction workers (MOP986) rose by 1.6% quarter-to-quarter.


UM English Debating Team reaches quarter-final of Thailand Debate Open 2019

Two teams from the University of Macau’ (UM) English Debating Team recently participated in the Thailand Debate Open 2019 held in Bangkok. Both teams made it to the final stage and one of the teams reached the quarter-final. This year’s event attracted debating teams from Peking University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Taylor’s University in Malaysia, SolBridge International School of Business in South Korea, and Chulalongkorn University in Thailand.


Monetary and financial statistics – December 2018

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, broad money supply continued to grow in December with a stable share of patacas. Meanwhile, both resident deposits and loans increased from a month earlier.


External merchandise trade statistics for December 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export for December 2018 amounted to MOP1.04 billion, up by 15.4% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP923 million) increased by 23.8%, with that of Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products surging by 322.1%. However, value of domestic exports (MOP120 million) dropped by 24.0%, with that of Pharmaceutical products & organic chemicals and Tobacco falling by 27.6% and 18.8% respectively. Total merchandise import rose by 0.5% year-on-year to MOP7.98 billion, of which imports of Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products and Garments & footwear expanded by 29.9% and 22.6% respectively, but that of Mobile phones fell by 41.0%. Merchandise trade deficit in December amounted to MOP6.94 billion.


Transport and communications statistics for the 4th quarter of 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that, at the end of December 2018, total number of licensed motor vehicles edged down by 0.6% year-on-year to 240,145, of which light motorcycles (26,256) decreased by 10.5%, whereas light automobiles (108,442) and heavy motorcycles (97,822) inched up by 0.8% and 0.9% respectively. New registration of motor vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2018 declined by 27.2% year-on-year to 3,622, and that for the whole year of 2018 dropped by 13.7% to 14,509, with heavy motorcycles (7,374) falling by 25.4%.
