UM professor appointed International Fellow of Chinese Academy of Sciences

Prof Brian Hall from the University of Macau (UM) Department of Psychology has been awarded the prestigious Presidential International Fellowship for Foreign Talents by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). This fellowship will provide Prof Hall with an honorary appointment in the CAS and the Key State Laboratory in Mental Health, in the Institute of Psychology in Beijing, along with research funding to initiate new joint collaborations in the field of traumatic stress studies in China.


Information Update on the Annual Press Conference of Macao Government Tourism Office (23 January)

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) held the Annual Press Conference yesterday (23 January) and unveiled the budget of the Office. Since the data shown on the slide “Budget of Macao Government Tourism Office in 2019” of the PowerPoint file is in fact the final budget in 2018, the Office now provides the budget of the Office in 2019 for reference.

Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 23 January for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 13 supermarkets in Sé Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo) or the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app.

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) held the Annual Press Conference today (23 January), indicating that total visitor arrivals to Macao went up by 9.8% to over 35.8 million in 2018, as revealed by preliminary figures. Surpassing same-day visitor arrivals for three years in a row, overnight-stay visitor arrivals surged year-on-year by 7.2% to account for 51.7% of total visitor arrivals. Looking into 2019, MGTO will march ahead to deepen Macao’s development as a Creative City of Gastronomy in tandem with the dedication to foster smart tourism and implement action plans mapped out by the Macao Tourism Industry Development Master Plan progressively, delivering the impact of the tourism industry in driving the economy and other related industries forward.


Visitor arrivals for December 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that number of visitor arrivals set a new monthly record of 3,569,825 in December 2018, representing a 16.9% growth year-on-year and a 9.3% rise month-to-month. Overnight visitors (1,741,267) and same-day visitors (1,828,558) increased by 6.5% and 28.9% respectively year-on-year. The average length of stay of visitors held steady at 1.2 days compared with December 2017, with that of overnight visitors rising by 0.1 day to 2.2 days and that of same-day visitors staying at 0.2 day.
