MGTO attends PATA Travel Mart in Malaysia and runs food truck to spotlight Macao

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) raised Macao’s profile at the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Travel Mart 2018 held in Langkawi, Malaysia from 12 to 14 September, featuring a Macao Food Truck to share distinctive delicacies and highlight the 2018 Macao Year of Gastronomy, besides playing host to the 2018 PATA Gold Awards Lunch and Awards Presentation today (14 September), one of the highlights of the PATA Travel Mart. Following that, MGTO Director is attending the meetings of the Executive Board, Board and Committee of the Association from 14 to 16 September.


The number of outstanding students admitted by UM continues to rise this year

As the quality of teaching and research at the University of Macau (UM) continues to rise, more and more outstanding students have chosen to study at UM. This year, 343 outstanding students have been admitted by UM through the Principals’ Recommended Admission Scheme, which is higher compared to last year. Among them, 45 are ranked No 1 in their secondary school classes. Mainland students admitted by UM this year scored an average of 17 per cent higher than the admission marks required by tier-one universities for their respective provinces and cities.


Super Typhoon “Mangkhut” Information Issue time: 2018/09/14 12H00

The Super Typhoon “Mangkhut” is now over the western North Pacific. It is well developed with a large gale circle. The maximum wind speed near its center has reached 240km/h. “Mangkhut” is forecasted to enter within 800 km of Macao on 15th morning and Typhoon Signal No.1 will be issued at the same time. Since “Mangkhut” will approach the coast of Guangdong and pose considerable threat to Macao and the Pearl River Delta, Typhoon Signal No.3 is expected to be issued on 15th night. “Mangkhut” will come closest to Macao during daytime one 16th. Frequent squalls and heavy showers are expected and there will also be serious flooding in low-lying areas due to storm surge.


Consumer Council released latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ Surveyed spots included supermarkets in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish

Consumer Council conducted its third ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 13 September for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 13 supermarkets in Toi San, Ilha Verde and Fai Chi Kei areas in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish.


CE orders raised preparedness regarding Typhoon Mangkhut

The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, today directed members of the civil protection system to apply their utmost effort in preparing for the possible impact of Typhoon Mangkhut, classified as a “super typhoon”.


The 23rd Macao International Trade and Investment Fair to be Held in Mid-October Building Regional Platforms to Explore Worldwide Business Opportunities

The 23rd Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (23rd MIF) will be held at The Venetian Macao from 18 to 20 October (Thursday to Saturday). The 23rd MIF has invited Mozambique to the "partner country" and Fujian province as the "partner province". Forums, conferences and workshops will be organised to promote regional economic and trade exchanges and co-operation in diversified ways and assist the participating enterprises to keep in line with the development of the “Belt and Road” Initiative, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and China-PSCs platforms. The 2018 Portuguese Speaking Countries Product and Services Exhibition (Macao) (2018 PLPEX) will continue to be held concurrently with the 23rd MIF.



UM researchers develop supramolecular nanovesicles to make pesticides environmentally friendly

Researchers from the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) at University of Macau (UM) recently developed a new type of supramolecular nanovesicles loaded with high-potent herbicides, which may replace Paraquat, the most widely used pesticide in mainland China that is known to be detrimental to both human health and the environment. The supramolecular nanovesicles are expected to significantly reduce the toxicity to users caused by pesticides. The study has been published by the leading multidisciplinary open access journal Nature Communications, with a patent pending in China.


Workshop on the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT)

In the latest evaluation of the Macao SAR by the Committee against Torture of the implementation of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT), a training need was identified for the personnel in the Security branches. In this regard, the Committee recommended that the Macao SAR should consider the provision of specialized training in the CAT area, bearing in mind the “Manual on the Effective Investigation and Documentation of Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment ", better known as the Istanbul Protocol.


Exhibition “Chapas Sínicas” still open at the Archives of Macao Exhibition extension opens to the public at the University of Macau

The exhibition “Chapas Sínicas ─ Stories of Macao in Torre do Tombo”, jointly organised by the Archives of Macao and the National Archives of Torre do Tombo of Portugal, is still open at the Archives of Macao, and an extension of the exhibition, in cooperation with the University of Macau Library, opened in the University Gallery of the University of Macau. All are welcome to visit.
